Apr 02, Chip rated it it was ok Shelves: The first book and perhaps the second were better Jan 04, Manda Meow rated it it was ok Shelves: While the narrative style is pleasant, there are far too many plot inconsistencies both within this story and between Howey's silo world and the world Davies describes.

There is little that is truly creative here, the author has only recombined borrowed ideas, and not very well at that. This entire piece seems like a big missed oppertunity. Unfortunately, even his treatment of alternative sexuality seem's inconsistent with the world in which he is writing. In Howey's world, where breeding is limited by lottery and couples are not so secretly happy when a death occurs and provides a chance at a child, I just do not see the general population resenting men in a homosexual relationship because they aren't fulfilling thier duty to breed, pact or no pact.

One would imagine this to be even less true in a flooded silo where space and resources are becoming scarce. I applaud Davies for attempting to address less mainstream ideas on sexuality, I just wish it had been done more skillfully. Jan 18, Andrew Lebwohl rated it it was ok.

Davies might have stopped there. Oh, everyone instinctively feels that a new pregnancy is a baby whose life is more important than that of the parents? Oh, a gay guy can just decide to turn straight from loneliness? Davies is artlessly trying to press a view on the reader, and it's not one that I think is right or that I wanted to have shoved on me while taking in some escapist reading. Aug 22, Patrick Barnes rated it it was amazing.

Davies wrote a miniseries that is just as good and fits into Wool as nicely. The characters and silos are written as well and in the same style as Howey.

The Runner Series

The introduction of a same-sex long-term relationship was a welcome surprise to the Wool universe. It never occurred to me how the Silos would handle that.

This book does it very well and the pressures that result Intensely Wool I was totally impressed by Ann Christy's fan fiction -Silo 49 and stunned by how easily it fit into The Wool universe. This book does it very well and the pressures that result on individuals are nestled into all the other pressures of a closed, failing environment built on lies and secrecy. This book made it an easy decision to read more of his books. Mar 11, Akoniti rated it it was amazing. A stellar entry in the Silo universe. Ann Christy's tales were enjoyable, but lacked a certain dark overtone that made Howey's originals so compelling.

It has some very interesting and original ideas about situations and activities that happen inside the Silos that we haven't known about from the Hugh Howey books.

This book follows the events of the Runner but with a different point of view. Like other reviewers have said, it's a worthy companion to the Silo series. Can't wait to read the Very exciting story and much better than the previous book The Runner , it grabbed me from the start, and that book was a very good also. Can't wait to read the next one. Its so interesting to picture how characters with the same "job" act so differently from silo to silo; or more accurately, from Wool to Kindle Worlds.

A few typos and grammar errors but nothing that kept me from enjoying the story. Jun 28, Alan rated it it was amazing. After reading Davies The Runner I had to read this follow on.
