Loose Cannon: The Van Helsen Adventures

Loose Canon Poll for October

Little did I know that a little game called Ninja Gaiden would bring my digits more pain than frostbite ever could. Starting with Vectrex and C64 games and moving forward through the era of electronic entertainment, I sampled as much as I could in the different platforms, and began my interest in PC gaming from wrestling with DOS memory management. While console games were a part of my earliest gaming memories and I certainly had played on most platforms including 3D0, all things Nintendo, PS1 and the like, truly the PC was my domain until the Xbox.

As an old PC gamer, I ever chased the cutting edge technology. Eye of the beholder with CGA 4 colors was my first step down the the path of blowing thousands of dollars on PC upgrades over two decades. Ultima 7, with the Guardian talking to me through my monitor, still haunts my dreams and keeps me ever hoping for a decent Ultima 8 and 9. My PC gaming has slowed down with the market shift though, and although I have choice games that will ever be on PC, I have found myself in console gaming with a bit of portable gaming in my life.

Back around the turn of the millenium and long before fatherhood , I had fired off an email offering to help Ron with a little-known site called ConsoleGold. Little did I know it would be be a part of my life to this day. While I've seen my fair share of shovelware thanks Ron! Leaning towards sandbox and action titles, I've grown to love games for their potential to reach art.

When I think of Blade, I often also think of Spiderman. The reason is that I feel like universally Spiderman 2 is considered better than Spiderman the same way Blade II is considered better than Blade. Reading this transported me back to that day where my buddy and I caught this at a matinee on opening day.

Like you, we went in expecting something corny but fun for a couple of hours. Then that opening action sequence kicked our asses and we knew we were in for something special. Thanks for bringing the memory of that magic back. Your comparing and contrasting it with the Matrix was really great, especially as they were only a year apart and are contemporaries in many ways. I watched both movies a ton, particularly on DVD, since I was in middle school when they came out. I always thought the final fight scene was a little anti-climactic especially since it was so short.

Maybe they left it in for the EU market? That seems to be a theme of films nowadays. Sternshein — I get you. I was a vampire killer I was born to fight their kind Always caught those fuckers at bad times I drove a Mustang and my right knee has a brace I made the weapons Blade used to wipe out their race And when I got bit he said that I should check out But I am still about. After re-watching it and writing this I found those notes and pulled a couple things from them, so in a way this piece was years in the making.

When The Matrix came out, I was one of those teenagers who was automatically suspicious of something popular, so I liked to unfavorably compare it to Blade. Blade I and II are still a couple of my favorite superhero flicks. Watching the blood bath scene in movie theaters was an absolute treat and one of my favorite moviegoing experiences as well.

I love all 3 of three of these movies and the first one is definitely the best but it drives me nuts that people always diss the last one.

eBay is a vibrant worldwide marketplace. There's no equal.

Also, in addition to the sunglasses bit that you mentioned, the part where he roundhouse kicks the syringes is another one that should not work but managed to be pretty awesome. I love this movie. The secret vampire society is ripped off from Vampire the Masquerade tho, which is also very 90s. I love the sprinklers full of blood. These shitbag vampire clubber are so decadent. An excellent movie with one memorable scene, character, moment, line after another.

Definitely functioned as a proof of concept for this recent glut of super hero movies, and VERY few of them have ever come close to being this fun.

All three movies are a delight in their own way, but the original is the gold standard. Just want to give a little love for two of my favorite bits of dialog: Not great like the other two, but still a nice kick in the balls.

Steam Trading Cards related website featuring a Showcase with all Trading Cards, Emoticons, Backgrounds, Artworks and a Trading Bot. The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing is a 3D, isometric action-RPG made in the style of Diablo and other similar titles.

Part 3 is definitely overdue for a revisit. It is a really fun movie, only let down by a disappointing Dracula. But it has all every other sorts of fun:. Reynolds is far funnier here than in Deadpool the jokes are better as well. Higgins as the wonderfully sleazy populist psychiatrist. Quite a horrific scena as juxtaposed to the fun lightheatrted moments just a few scenes back. There is much more here than I can think of. It is a fun watch.

And I think people should be grateful. In these Blade-less ages one must be thankful for what we have. Cause the Blood God bits are definetely in the deleted scenes, not in the final film. Could you post a link to the version you have, because it would be awesome to know if such a version had that stuff in it. Anyway, as much as I love this detailed write-up, I never really liked this movie.

And yes, I have to agree with Mr M. But well, comic book fantasy and shit. BTW, the Spider-Man cartoon was for its time not that shitty. They had some good stories, that often spread over 5 or 6 episodes. He looks embarassed to be there and he should. Would you know it? How come the original BLADE is the only one to be able to portray an interesting vampire-centric society?

You know how much I fucking hate that! What did they do to you? Actually Posey is probably the best thing about this movie.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing: Extended Edition - Launch Trailer - PS4

And giant CGI Dracula. But still… this shit is awful. The audience was laughing out loud several times during that movie. Of course the same can be said of Snipes, Kristofferson, Posey, Reynolds…. But it tries more world building and more reminiscient of the first film. He makes no effort of making the role his own. Shoot — I never got past the second episode unfortunately.

Excellent review as always. I saw this on opening day too, it was a really fresh take on vampire action at that point, i loved it. Some Belfast accents can be quite…. Did we catch ye at a bad time? As to the movie, I just re-watched this a few weeks ago. It was still awesome. I remember hating that incarnation of Dracula and thinking, for whatever reason, that he was like the Eurotrash version of the character.

It was Wentworth Miller! Thought it was the same guy. Hypnosifi — ahhhh I get it now. Tornado issues resolved then!

The CGI fighting puts me off too much. I saw this recently for the first time in a decade and was genuinely amazed at it all over again. Only Constantine comes close to a comic book look. I guess I missed the superheroes in Friday? That movie I know has some defenders but personally it just depresses me seeing Wesley being bummed out and barely active in his own movie. This was a great write up and reminded me of the first time I saw this. It was refreshing to see more alpha vampire shit around again. Gut feeling told me it might be one of the good ones and it certainly was.

Blade was pretty one dimensional until the movie to be honest.
