Zuckerman is more down-to-earth. When an amazed Mr. Zuckerman says, ''A miracle has happened and a sign has occurred here on earth, right on our farm, and we have no ordinary pig,'' Mrs. Zuckerman does not agree. She is not going to believe any nonsense about a special pig. When the Zuckermans and Arables are getting ready to go to the County Fair, the other characters are all dreaming about food, blue ribbons, rides, and prizes. Zuckerman is dreaming about a ''deep freeze unit. Zuckerman would like to have a freezer, which is a very practical wish for a farm wife, who spends much of her time growing vegetables and preparing food.

Before leaving for the fair, Mrs. Zuckerman decides that she is going to give Wilbur a buttermilk bath because he is dirty.

Zuckerman thinks Wilbur looks fine, Edith says, ''He's filthy behind the ears Every time Lurvy slops him, the food runs down around the ears. Then it dries and forms a crust. He also has a smudge on one side where he lays in the manure. Zuckerman is not keen on the idea, Mrs. Zuckerman puts on a raincoat and boots and gives Wilbur a bath in buttermilk! And right spang in the middle of the web there were the words 'Some Pig. They were actually part of the web, Edith. I know, because I have been down there and seen them. It says, 'Some Pig,' just as clear as clear can be. There can be no mistake about it. A miracle has happened and a sign has occurred hereon earths right on our farm, and we have no ordinary pig. Zuckerman, "it seems to me you're a little off. It seems to me we have no ordinary spider. It says so, right there in the middle of the web. Wilbur was pleased to receive so much attention.
