This game's combat was, I think, a good evolution from Fable 2's that was so laughably easy not that it wasn't fun. This game's story was also much better. However, I think that once Fable decided to stop taking a more linear path in the storylines and quests and exploration, then I haven't been as immersed by the story as I was in Fable 1.

Not that giving us more area to explore was a bad choice, but I would almost have preferred the small linear areas of Fable 1 because for some reason or another they made it feel more like a story instead of a bunch of random happenings that one hero goes through. The story is driving itself into more modern times and taking out the fantasy with each step. Fable 3 has the funnest combat I think.
