Dead And Kicking

I wanted to kick Sadie in the butt with her Zack problems. He was just absolutely acting like a druggie and she a love sick fool with no self esteem. Love the crime scene and ghost interaction. One person found this helpful. I have a feeling, since page 4, that I had read this one a few years ago. I liked it all over again although the main character cleans up crime scene and unattended deaths so it seems gruesome. It gives reason for her to be at crime scenes and as she can talk to the departed help solve the crime. Tight story, amazingly little repetitiveness.

Solid plot with excellent character development. Nice life features keep the characters fresh. Mass Market Paperback Verified Purchase. This is the third book in this paranormal series. Sadie Novak can see and talk to ghosts. Her company, 'Scene-to-Clean', cleans up after messy murders or deaths or anyplace where there's a gory mess no one else wants to tackle. She helps the ghosts 'go over' to wherever they are going! Her father has died, but his ghost is still here. He doesn't realize he's a ghost and denies that he's dead until he looks into a mirror and sees no reflection.

Her partner and lover, Zack, has been evasive, and she sees him going in the wrong direction to get to where he said he was going, follows him, and discovers that he has taken on the job of cleaning his ex-lover's, Paula , mother's house. She had been a hoarder, and it is stacked with boxes to the ceiling. Sadie agrees that it is a big job and she will help.

When she goes upstairs, she encounters a very ugly and angry ghost who screams at her and tells her that this is his stuff, and they can't have it. Sadie tells Zack not to go into the bedrooms upstairs as unlike most ghosts, this ghost is capable of handling things, and when they continue working, he throws boxes at them. Zack gets his ankle broken.

As they are leaving to go to the hospital, one of the crates splits open, and a mummified baby falls out. This brings in the police, who decide to take all the stuff to a warehouse and go through them. The ghost then attacks them as they take over the cleaning! Sadie has a friend who is psychic who has friends who can set up 'safe circles'.

Sadie has this done, but the circle is only downstairs.

Her mother doesn't know about her talent, and thinks that Sadie is nuts! The story ends with a real twist, and is great. I also recommend the first two books, which have many of the same characters. Dec 23, Rose Montague rated it it was amazing. Dead and Kicking is an action-packed fun afternoon read and an excellent addition to the urban fantasy genre. It's got witches, vampires, and shifters with just the right touch of romance and a good bit of humor.

I am looking forward to the next book in this series. In the beginning, I thought it had potential. Sure the world building is thin, but it also features preternatural beings that are familiar to most: Then it fell apart and got boring. I mean, I loved the secondary characters -- Bryce the ghost, who then becomes ghost in the machine, was really fun to read. However, the main characters Way to ruin things for me: I don't think I'll continue with the next book. Mar 14, Joy Kamara rated it it was amazing. This book reminds me of Hunted by the Others by Jess Hai Thank you Lisa Emme for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. So if you like that kinda story, you'll like this! She has a gift, which gives her the ability to see ghosts, and makes for some fun moments which had me giggling like a school girl.

I don't want to give too much away, other than there's plenty of action, drama, investigating and betrayal. I wish there were more heated moments with a certain hunky hero! I'm crazy from the sexual tension, yet I'm excited to see where Harry's relationship leads, those hot kisses and bedroom eyes are haunting me! And by God I hope it turns into a sexy, sizzling, lust fest in the next book, just give me a chapter of them giving in to their desires, or two, or three, give me something, please!!!

After much resisting, she decided to go out on a blind date with someone Gram has set her up with. The only problem is, he shows up late, disheveled, and totally dead. Her involvement soon attracts the attention of Vampires, Werewolves, a sexy crime detective, and others that would use her powers for their own purposes. Obviously not common place but Harry seems to be able to hold her own. The story progresses when she meets a very yummy shapeshifter who is also the police officer in charge of the case. Nash, the police officer, is a great addition to the story line as a strong male character as well as Salvador, a vampire, another strong male character. These strong men are very good at playing against how strong Harry is. This is a really good book from page 1 on, and honestly I was not able to put it down.

I like that Harry is a strong female character without being overly bitchy and that Nash and Salvador while on opposite sides of the morality spectrum, to Harry they are intriguing, and that carries over for the reader. The twists are honestly a little unexpected and so when they did occur I was honestly surprised and happy.

Start by marking “Dead and Kicking (The Harry Russo Diaries, #1)” as Want to Read: Angharad ‘Harry’ Russo is just your ordinary twenty-something, with one exception - she’s a witch with an out of the ordinary gift. Karen said: You have just got to love a book that has an opening scene that takes you deep into the Vietna.

While this is a very good Urban Fantasy I liked the added little surprise of the twists. You know that saying everything but the kitchen sink, well in this case duck because here comes the sink. Lisa seems to have used every available species of the paranormal world to fill the pages of her book.

Three Mages and a Margarita

I read this debut by Lisa Emme in one sitting. When she encounters a Daoine Sidhe knight of the Dark Court, she becomes entangled in an ancient hatred between two arcane forces. Amazon Renewed Refurbished products with a warranty. This is the third book in this paranormal series. I wish there were more heated moments with a certain hunky hero! And those of you who know me, know that I adore Jensen Ackles. Feb 25, Catherine Bibby Rochelle's Reviews rated it it was amazing.

The advantage of this method of writing is that there is little chance of becoming bored with fast paced character and scene changes, disadvantage you might find it difficult to connect to the characters and Lisa will have to keep an eye on things so she doesn't lose control of all the strings she is pulling. I must be honest here, Lisa is not re-inventing the wheel so don't expect anything different than what you normally read, "Harry" the girl with secret depths, with the love interest a loyal yet obnoxious werewolf, throw in a secretive and controlling vampire overlord and you get the gist of the story.

But don't let this put you off, it may not be original, but Lisa writes with adept touch which many authors don't have and which makes this book a great light yet action packed read.

I will be looking out for the next book - but the cover might need some work. Feb 04, Romarin Demetri rated it it was amazing. Harry is a self-sufficient business owner, with a group of hilarious and diverse friends. I also love a character with questionable parentage and secret powers. This was the first book I have read with zombies, and it was very well done from a prospective of Necromancy--not just for pure horror. I recommend it to anyone looking for a urban fantasy with a good amount of paranormal romance.

Dec 10, Feminista rated it liked it Shelves: Would have given it 4 stars if the writing was better. The author can't seem to write the resolution of suspense scenes properly. They were kind of like fade out scenes. Like Harry's powers, when she finds out, she does not think it through properly.

Or when she finds out from Tess what Nash did with the food bowl at the wolf club, there is a fade out scene. I enjoyed this story!!

Publisher's Summary

It contained all my favorite types of paranormal characters and I couldn't put it down. Read it in one sitting!! It was an easy read with a great story line. I didn't want the story to end! I can't wait to read the next book in this series. Oct 23, RuthAnn rated it did not like it Shelves: Metallica does NOT sing Thunderstruck.

Dec 15, Grace's Potato rated it liked it Shelves: Jun 29, Donna rated it really liked it. I liked the characters. Oct 06, Lucy Dosch added it. The premise of the story had potential and started out as an average Urban Fantasy with nothing overly exciting but still a potential to be a good series until the two main characters turned into complete idiots. Harry is a witch who can see the dead, and she lives with her two best friends, another witch and a wolf shifter, as well as the spirit of her grandmother who raised these girls but who passed seven years prior.

Her grandmother convinces her to go the local coffee shop to try and "acc DNF! Her grandmother convinces her to go the local coffee shop to try and "accidentally" meet a handsome man her grandmother picked out for her. Harry meets him there but in spirit only since he was just murdered.

He drags Harry to his murdered body and has her locate a flash drive hidden in his shoe. Harry calls in the murder and when the police arrive she meets Detective Cian Nash and there is an instant buzz between the two of them. As they start the story, we get the impression that Harry is a witch with some decent powers and someone who is in the know with the paranormal world.

So this should not be a "I just learned I am a supernatural and have no idea of the world I am part of" story. Oddly though, even though she lives with a wolf shifter, she doesn't pick up on things like Cian sniffing the air, and sniffing her, nor does she get any buzz with her witch powers that he is paranormal. Turns out that Cian is an Alpha wolf with the local pack that Harry's roommate belongs to.

This is just the start of the idiot problems that suddenly come up. Harry doesn't tell Detective Nash that she has the flash drive and watches a video of a powerful necromancer who is killing people and jacking their bodies for some yet unknown reason. She takes this to the Magistrate of the area who is a very old and powerful vampire. Harry goes to his bondage club, dressed and ready to confront vampires including a camouflage spell for her katana , and again, seems to know everything about protecting herself, but ends up being forced into a private date with the dangerous vampire and then she simply doesn't appear to know just how dangerous and powerful he truly is, again idiot.

She knows that the vampires can't get into her home but doesn't take into account that the rich, powerful vampire who wants to get his hands on her can simply buy the building out from under you and walk right in because it is now his home. The ghost grandmother also seems to have given Harry only so much important information, such as why she needs to be avoiding the dangerous vampire.

Maybe when she was young you were protecting her, but since she has gotten old enough since her grandmother passed and is still hanging around, there might have been plenty of time for the "you're ready to know" speech which would have let Harry know exactly why it was important to never come to his attention. Harry isn't the only one. When one of the men starts hitting on Harry, Cian seems to stake his claim by personally dropping a bowl of stew in front of her. I would have stopped listening if it were not for them.

A light, cozy, paranormal mystery. The action is fast and continues until the end. Harry is witch and can see ghosts. Her roommates are a werewolf, Tess and a human, Holly.
