You are quite correct when you say, "translation involves interpretation" however, that is not true in an on-line learning situation. If you were in a classroom the teacher would be able to decide if your translation was acceptable. At Duolingo, there are limits to how many responses the computer will recognize.

For the rest of your response, have a look at all the comments above as they have already been asked and answered. BTW, it is my understanding that 'good looking' is guapo or guapa, but I may be wrong. If you say He also is good looking then you are comparing HE to someone else. There are plenty of logical explanations for the sentence, and lots of useful asides too. Not only is " Everyone is complaining " patently untrue, but most of the comments are relevant and appropriate, and some are witty and funny, which also helps me to remember the vocabulary.
