Toowoomba to Torokina The 25th Battalion in peace and war, 1918–45

The description of the Battle of Milne Bay is the best I have read despite supposedly being focused on a single battalion.

Although the book generally steers clear of explicit critical analysis of politicians and generals there is some very brief description of the post war debate over the offensive strategy on Bougainville pursued by the Australian take over. And the description of the fighting and the ability of the Japanese to resist the Australians was an eye opener.

The Japanese as described in the book may have been cut off but they were not necessarily starving or lacking ability or will to fight on. One person found this helpful.

However, once it gets to the very large appendix, my Kindle locks up completely. Rebooting fixes the problem, as I can read other books, but can't get back into this one. It's an odd issue I've not seen before, so I think there must be something about this book. Perhaps it doesn't play nice with the Kindle 3.
