An aimless, miserable teenage boy named Albert Scully meets and befriends an eccentric old woman who teaches him the importance of life dreams and subsequently, a few things about self-esteem.

I enjoyed it; perhaps the Lessons Learned here have been taught many, many times in very many YA stories since, but there's a sincerity and simplicity of feeling here that I found winning. The Dream-Watchers : nosleep

The sound was coming from directly behind me, from the dark hallway. The aroused feeling dissipated quickly and I felt like I had a weird sense of control of my body. It's the closest I feel I've ever come to lucid dreaming. I turned my head quickly and stared into the darkness. My eyes were straining to look into the inky void. I turned my body to match my head and I heard a voice.

It sounded like my boyfriend was talking to me in real life. It sounded masculine but timid. As I got closer to the arch I could see the hall floor come into focus. Almost like a video game, where the fog of war is lifting on a new map. As I near the arch, the shades of black in the shadow start to define two dark shadows closer to me than the back of the hall. I squint some more and keep approaching. The blurs start to become dark blue with white at the top. One more step closer, the blue blurs start to settle into blue body shapes.

The white at the top, is becoming more flesh-toned and stable. The shorter body seems more agitated as they continue to materialize. With morbid fear in his voice. The taller body was tensed silently in an action ready pose. I got within arms distance of the arch and began to see the blue of their bodies tighten up into a crisp blue digital camo pattern. I looked at their feet and saw clean black combat boots laced and tucked over their pant legs.

They were wearing Navy fatigues! I noticed they were both standing with one arm behind their back, stretched backwards like they were hanging on to something.

Their free hands were both by their side. Neither were moving beyond breathing. My visual contact continued up their bodies. They were both caucasian.

Whispers, breathing, their boots creaking quietly as they shifted weight motionlessly. I cocked my head to the side like a puppy hearing snacks for the first time. Eyes wide with horror and intrigue. I took another step closer and outstretched my hand into the dark. The closer my fingers got to them, the clearer they became. Their blurry shoulders became crisp and produced their faces.

One was dark blue eyes with dark blond hair, the other was bright blond with brown eyes.

I could see the fear in their eyes as I reached out to them. Still no name patch visible. It was only at this point I realized that their arms behind their back was holding on to a fine, cherry red string. The string stretched across the hallway from darkness to darkness. It was just floating there with their left hands firmly gripped on to it.

Like kids hanging onto a rope. My face straightened upwards as I was a few feet away from the taller man. At the same time, a high frequency tone rang through the inside of my head and they vanished completely right before my dream eyes. The red string and all. The frequency tone was oppressive and I gasped awake immediately, it as 6: I rolled out of bed. Stumble to the bathroom, I go pee really quickly, but start coughing up my normal, morning lung butter. I clean up and stand to cough fully.

I hack a gross bit out, but feel this tickle in the back of my throat. I try forcing a cough and I feel the tickle rise onto the back of my tongue. I fish out a lump of mucus, and then something.

Something small… I pull my fingers out of my mouth and a long red string emerges from my esophagus. This shit makes me think of Project M. They were THERE from outside and the feeling I had as soon as I heard him say "She can see us" the second or third time, was they've been watching my dreams for a while.

ALL of my clothes and bedroom decor is blue, green and white. There is next to nothing in my house that the red string could have come from. I know no one was in my room saying this stuff in real life. An intruder would have to go through his room to get into mine through the door and my windows are locked. I hope I never see them again, even though, just like an animal in the wild, they were probably more scared of me than I was of them.
