Not many hotels make it on my favourites list. I know when I find one because I start planning a return nearly as soon as I get there.

The boat service in winter is governed more by wind and tide, but daily, direct trips still take place with the occasional circular journey when the weather is sufficiently benign. Most walks take place on recognised paths and tracks, however there may be cases where we walk along trails or other unsealed surfaces and care should be taken in these areas.

It takes all of about 5 minutes from dropping off your room key at reception old-fashioned and I love it to stepping on your boat. Service and family friendliness are other reasons to love the hotel. Collect shells, paint them and add them to our shell wall! Our hotel in Scilly had lots of little hidden corners like this one. Note there is no scheduled travel on or off Scilly on Sundays!

Enjoy a fun day out with Captain Tim of Calypso. Boat takes 12 passengers so booking is essential. Tim also offers days trips to islands, trips to view seal and evening trips to St Agnes.

Taking flight: an Isles of Scilly family holiday adventure

Views overlooking the Harbour and you can even see Tregarthens! Pasties, local crab sandwiches, pizza and lots of other yummy stuff. Scilly cows make the best ice cream! The flights were donated by Isles of Scilly Travel. We paid for all activities.

If you are travelling by sea please note that there are no parking facilities on Penzance Quay. The Isles of Scilly Travel website www. It is advisable to pre-book these facilities. There is a rail service across the UK to Penzance which is the end of the railway line in the South West. The shuttle services run approximately one hour before your flight but make enquiries when you book your travel.

Alternatively, there is a taxi rank directly outside the train station. In addition to the usual daytime rail service between London and Penzance there is a Night Riviera Sleeper train service which operates between London Paddington and Penzance from Sunday to Friday. We recommend booking a sleeper berth so you can get some rest before your onward journey to the islands. For up to date timetables and fares consult the First Great Western website.
