Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I am glad I read his first book in a series called Abraham's Bones. The characters are very well laid on the page in a story that rarely lets up.

I could not put it down. Most impressive, though, for a fellow author of thrillers is Mister Prentis' successful expansion outside the usual constraints of the genre. He finds time inside his fast-paced story to go deeply into the characters he is developing, a bright addition to thriller methodology. As well, the author spices the last 20 percent of the novel with intriguingly subtle clues to the coming parts in the series.

Abraham's Bones by Joe Prentis

Prentis expertly handles a book or even a possible couple of books, making up the beginning of his story. This strength as a thriller novelist only enhances his stature as a writer. What is important is the believability of actual story events as they unfold. Prentis shines in his realism.

Editorial Reviews

This book is not meant to be like, for example, The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann where everything is elaborately portrayed in one opus. Abraham's Bones is a brilliantly successful thriller, leading the reader to future parts in a series.

The book does not confuse the avid booklover of thrillers. It entices us into its realm with tact and respect for the reader. Prentis' women glowed in a particularly caring masculine light, equally well crafted from the petulant adolescent through the mature professional. He demonstrated a clear understanding of the ravages experienced by a strong grandmother, struggling with the onset of Alzheimer's disease.

[(Abraham's Bones)] [By (author) Joe Prentis] published on (June, 2010)

Particularly well introduced teasers, leading provocatively to coming parts in the series cemented my respect for the author. Abraham's Bones delivers on all counts as a thriller and propels me to want to read the next part. What seems to bother some of the critics only betrays their lack of understanding of or appreciation for the thriller genre.

John Christopher's character is enduring and memorable, and has to face a lot of adversity in his Vatican given role. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. There were simply too many of them, they blended together, and a lot of them were extraneous to the plot. This plot was strong, very believable. Twenty-One Songs for Zion.

One person found this helpful. This novel was reminiscent of a Dan Brown novel in that it delved right into the middle of a religious conflict, brought the reader through a great many twists and turns, and had a lot of exciting moments. The only problem I had with the novel was that, while the two main characters were interesting, the side characters were less so. There were simply too many of them, they blended together, and a lot of them were extraneous to the plot. It sets the stage for a sequel that will be even bigger than the first novel, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the writer can bring about the second time around!

I like a thrilling plot as much as the next person, but characters are what make me buy the books I read for pleasure. If the characters aren't realistic and well-rounded enough to make me care about them, I'm not going to finish the book no matter how good the plot is. Joe Prentis has crafted a thrilling mix of international politics, science, religion, history and espionage and brought it all to life with a cast of characters whose lives are entwined by rich emotional content.

Even though the plot is complicated and full of brilliant intrigue, it shares the spotlight equally with the ongoing saga of the characters' lives, most of which have lifelong personal histories with each other. This blend of an action-filled plot and finely-drawn characterization should make this book a winner with both genders.

I also had to wonder while I was reading just how many jobs Joe Prentis has worked in his life, because he writes about politicians, reporters, archeologists, diplomats and even terrorists as though he has been one himself. Every detail--from the architecture in the Vatican right down to the fashions worn by the women--is flawlessly researched and perfectly described. I could see each scene as clearly as though it were playing on a movie screen.

Great, fast moving, got very involved in the story. It was easy to imagine that the characters were real. Will read more of Joe Prentis' books. This was a pretty good read. I read it in a couple of days. I read a lot of books, and because of that I'll give up on a book in hurry if it doesn't pull me in.

For the last couple of days my life has been centered around Abraham's Bones. Every spare moment of an otherwise incredibly busy life was taken up with this wonderful read for the past few days. I even tried to break away, but Prentis' complex and well-woven plot had me. It's a sly roller-coaster ride and just when you think it's about to let up--BAM! It's intelligent and absorbing, very much so, and I was reminded of Jack Higgins on his best day.

Don't miss Abraham's Bones! The story was interesting-I read the entire book. However I had a hard time keeping up with who was whom. Also I was disappointed with the ending.

I will probably read The Relic. Also there were a lot of typos and grammatical errors. See all 17 reviews. Amazon Giveaway allows you to run promotional giveaways in order to create buzz, reward your audience, and attract new followers and customers. Learn more about Amazon Giveaway.
