After a short drive to a remote area, Gerald raped Linda, and then beat her over the head with a rock. To satisfy himself that she was dead he strangled her corpse for good measure. On June 22, , German tourists discovered Linda's badly decomposing body. After an autopsy was completed, it was determined that Gerald was unsuccessful in murdering Linda. Bizarre as it sounds, Flowers points out that Charles and Charlene knew Mochel and had been served drinks by her on numerous occasions. My appeals is starting to come to an end in both states and I am looking for a friend. Someone that will stand with me and befriend me until the end. I'm not looking for a lot of friends-just one true one.

Dancing on Her Grave. To make her man happy and avoid a beating; Charlene lured many innocent victims, one as young as thirteen, into the hands of Gerald who raped them, murdered them and tossed them away like so much trash. Oct 26, Rossy rated it did not like it Shelves: Jul 06, Bark rated it really liked it Shelves: Flowers gives some backstory about Gerald, who was seemingly doomed for a prison cell from the start and Charlene who was a pretty, smart young woman with a wild streak and a love of sex, drugs and dysfunctional relationships. The author explores the circumstances that not only led the killers to committing their string of crimes, but also the bizarre bond they formed as husband and wife, when the pair made history as the first serial-killing couple in the United States. I remember I read this book which was one of the first 10 true crime books I read I did think it sucked and later I read another book which was so much better.

As you can see by my poor writing, my misspellings, etc. I don't know if I have anything to offer anyone except my friendship. I guess what I'm saying is to say is I just don't want to go down the road by myself anymore I don't have any picture of myself I am not very good at letter writing, and someday's are harder than others. But I will try and be a very good pen pal to someone. Sincerely Yours, Gerald Gallego". Was Gallego afraid of dying in jail alone? Was his "conscience" finally eating at him? Did Charlene Gallego get off too easily?

These are questions this book will make you ponder. What was Charlene's explanation why she went along with Gerald's demonic requests? Although she told the jury during the trial that she deserved to die for her role in the murders, Flowers gives Charlene's poignant explanation. She stated under oath: I was to accept him I knew I would never find anyone else who wanted me. I was afraid of him at the time.

I was afraid he would kill me. The only way he would end this relationship was to kill me because of what I knew". Another woman, Eva Braun, had a unique view of Adolf Hitler's conquests of Europe, his brand of Nazism and the killing centers of the concentration camps, because she dedicated her life to him. Let us also remember that after nearly seventeen years as Adolf Hitler's faithful companion, Eva Braun finally married him in a bunker under the flaming ruins of her bridegroom's Third Reich.

Three hours later he poisoned her to death. Finally, I felt that R. Barry Flowers told an excellent, well constructed and eloquent story of a very sick, twisted relationship that cost the lives of 10 innocent people. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I felt that it was Flowers obligation to explore why Charlene Gallego got off so lightly.

Just because she testified against Gerald, does that lessen her guilt? Where was her conscience when these murders were going on? This was the only stone Flowers left unturned. Regardless, it was a book I couldn't put down until the last horrifying page was turned. Apr 28, Angela rated it liked it. I wish there was 2. Glad they were brought to justice. Book is pretty lackluster and straightforward. Wanted to know more about the victims. Pandering style The author has a pretty repetitive style, full of hand wringing of "if only!

It pulled together at the end once the case had gone to court, but overall it didn't leave me with a great impression.

Sep 23, Elizabeth rated it really liked it Shelves: I listened to the audio version and found it very captivating. The reader mostly read indifferently, though dramatically changed into a gruff male character voice for anything Gerald said which was usually quite abrupt and slightly terrifying. The audio isn't for the weak of heart. I didn't like how some of the victims were described, though I kept reminding myself that those descriptions were actually how the killers described the victims. I did think that could have been made more clear or les I listened to the audio version and found it very captivating.

I did think that could have been made more clear or less insensitive. I also didn't care for how innocent Charlene was portrayed, though that was part of why the case turned out how it did. As someone who discovered these horrible people for the first time it was a fascinating read regardless. Jun 06, Katya rated it did not like it. I read this book on the Kindle. The free sample was engaging enough to convince me to buy it It became a very dry read. The author just reported facts or quoted dialog- there was no emotion in the story and the characters all seemed very flat. Finally it jumped to the trial section, but that was also a bad read.

It was like hearing about the trial from a newspaper reporter instead of actually seeing it with your own eyes. Overall, a disappointing read. Dec 08, Echoloria rated it liked it Recommends it for: Those who have not heard of this case. Review of The Sex Slave Murders If you have not heard of or read anything on this particularly gruesome duo, this book is worth reading, and I wonder if others put it down asking themselves the same things I am asking myself.

The True Story of Serial Killers Gerald and Charlene Gallego

There are pertinent points mentioned in Encyclopedia of Serial Killers that was totally left out of the aforementioned book. I am totally stunned at the humanity or lack there of in some people. This book was well written and I absolutely enjoyed how the author brought forth the story of Gerald and Charlene Gallego. This book would have gotten five stars if not for the portrayal of Charlene as some kind of a victim. She is every bit as responsible, cold, calculating, and more as her 'husband' Gerald. Sep 24, Elyssa rated it liked it. The book didn't really provide many specific details on the murders themselves but as a fan of true crime it was a quick and fun read all the same.

Sep 13, Catherine Martin rated it really liked it. Another true crime novel. And the name is more lurid than the book. This is the story of a couple who committed serial murders because of the husband sexual compulsions. I listened on audiobook. Jun 26, Tamara Clark rated it liked it.
