As to size, well, bigger is usually better because it takes time to heat and vent the canner, process the veggies, then wait for it to cool down to open it. So, a larger canner holds so many jars, that means you may be able to do your entire batch in one cycle. You do not need to fill the canner each time - you can can with one jar in it, or a full load.

With pressure canners, unlike water bath canners, you can stack the jars. This means the larger canners can handle many jars at once, like 19 to 32 pint jars in one pressure canning batch. I unplugged it and waited 10 minutes to restart it. When I plugged it back up, the same error came back on. What is the problem? Have you tried adding more liquid or waiting to let the unit cool down and then trying again? I want to cook a pot full of baby carrots for a pot luck … do I just add 1 cup of water, dump in the carrots, select STEAM then increase time to 6 minutes maybe??

Hi Kathy — 1 cup of water and steam will work, I think 6 minutes is probably too long because it will take longer for a pot full of baby carrots to come to pressure. Maybe 2 or 3 minutes would be plenty. Hi Delores — use the cook time selector to adjust the cooking time higher. If you want a lower cook time, you have to select a different setting.
