Difficult Run is a mile-long ( km) tributary stream of the Potomac River in Northern Virginia in the United States. The area has had many historical uses. With fifty percent of the Difficult Run hike following the Potomac River at one of its most scenic spots, it's easy to see why so many people make Great Falls Park.

From this height you can see all the way up the river to the steep walls of Mather Gorge. At the junction with the Old Carriage Road, turn left onto the dirt road and continue to the next juncture, turning left on the Ridge Trail.
