He speaks as if he's been there and done that, twice if you've done it once. This book was overly lengthy. It was draining and exhausting to read. It was packed with so much beneficial information, great advice, some wonderful self-help tips, etc. But was covered up by a tremendous amount of filler, repetitiveness, unimportant details, and bland information. It was more a choice trying to stay awake and stay interested in this book, then it would be to actually apply it to my life. Don't get my wrong, Dr. If you have the patience which I don't then this book just might be a beneficial read to you!

Dr Phil, that famous TV psychologist, has written another self-help book, this time to assist in developing the self. Having a background in his field myself, I could always understand what he was talking about, but I don't think you need such a grounding to follow him - he translates nearly all of the jargon and most of his broader text into common American idiom. Like his TV cases, this book is short and oversimplifies the work that is really necessary to change oneself for the better and for Dr Phil, that famous TV psychologist, has written another self-help book, this time to assist in developing the self.

Nevertheless, I do applaud his efforts in making the general public, who are mostly naive to such things, more aware of psychological issues and some basic ways to develop their potential.

I also like how he eats a piece of humble pie and acknowledges he's not perfect by explaining some of his own life lessons. This book explains some basic principles, and as such provides an introduction to some of the theories of applied psychology. It might also make a good companion to aid the understanding of somebody going through therapy. However, unlike its author, I wouldn't recommend it for a whole course of self-treatment. Major life changes require real support from real people, not a paperback. I'm interested in psychology, I like some of Dr Phil's show that I've seen, I find the man basically sensible and honest in his points of view, and I thought it would be interested to read something he had written. Unfortunately, Dr Phil appears to have written this book for pardon my language, but it's true absolute idiots. For people whose average IQ and reading comprehension is far l Let me be clear at the very beginning: For people whose average IQ and reading comprehension is far less than mine or in all probability, yours.

For people who want to be told exactly what to do, and when. As a result, the book was long-winded, repetitive, and boring, and it lost my attention very early on. With full respect to the man, his work and what I'm sure he was trying to achieve when he wrote it, this was not my cup of tea, and I wouldn't suggest you try it either.
