Dragonfire

The publication day is 30th October I received a digital copy from the publishers in exchange for an honest review. Nov 18, Cathleen rated it liked it. I received a free ARC from Netgalley. I had read a couple in this series years ago so I was a little lost. The extra characters and viewpoints made this a complex story that was only in part about the main characters.

I enjoyed their story and would focus on just those parts if I read this again. Left with lots of questions and side characters hanging. Nov 08, Jolie rated it really liked it. Sabina is a Gypsy living with her brother near the Carpathian Mountains. When she was a child, her grandmother told her a story and made her promise to remember it.

Because of that theft, her family was forced to leave their homeland and becoming Romani. She thought it was a legend until she met Roman and Vlad. Roman is helping his friend V find his stolen sword. Traveling to the Carpathian Mountains, they stumble up Sabina is a Gypsy living with her brother near the Carpathian Mountains. Traveling to the Carpathian Mountains, they stumble upon Sabina and her brother Camlo. But there are wrenches thrown into their plans. A mysterious alliance between Druids and Fae threaten their quest.

Can Sabina and Roman find the sword? Will they give into their attraction to each other? Or will everything fail? I was pretty excited to read Dragonfire. I had read and reviewed Heat and enjoyed it. So I figured that I would like this book also. Along with Rhi, Con, Ulrik, and Mikkel. I am in awe that someone can do that. I have issues with keeping one thing straight in my head. So forget many series of books with many plotlines and characters. I liked Sabina and Roman together. I will admit that at the beginning of the book, I was a little confused at who Sabina was supposed to be with.

I thought it was going to be V for some reason. But once Roman and Sabina met, the sexual attraction and chemistry came off the pages. When they finally did have sex, it was amazing. I will never look at hot springs in the same way again. She kept it up. Which meant that the other sex scenes were amazing.

I also liked Sabina and Roman as people. They both had gone through some tough times. She had to be strong and wary. Seeing her open up and trust Roman and V was powerful. When he told the story about how he became Dragon King and who he had to defeat, my heart broke for him. But, what made me like him, was his gentleness with Camlo.

Sabina had the Sight. But what did that consist of? What could she see other than people being dishonest?

I know that it came into play when she touched V in the cave but still, I would have loved a better explanation. I was also frustrated when it came to getting information out of him. I know that he had the mind of a child but man, that whole scene dragged out when Roman and Sabina were deep in the caverns. What other abilities did he have other than talking to animals and the Sight? The plotline involving V and his sword was amazingly written. The author did a great job at keeping me guessing about where the sword was.

Also the neat twist she put in that storyline, I liked. But it did explain a whole bunch. And with the Others magic making it even more dangerous, my heart was in my throat during the entire journey. The end of that storyline had me in tears. But I forgot one thing.

Only another Dragon King can kill a Dragon King. The secondary storylines were good but man, they were vague. Take Con losing the weapon. That was a first for me. What was the weapon? It was something that Con and the other Dragon Kings feared. The storyline with the Others infuriated me. Why were they doing what they did and how did they know what was going on it the future.

Also, the book that Usaeil found in the hidden library. What is with that? And the very last chapter. I wanted to scream with frustration about that. Like I mentioned above, I wanted to scream at the end of Dragonfire. I gave Dragonfire a 4-star rating. This was a well written 14th book in the Dark Kings series. I connected with the characters. The plotlines were well written with no lag or dropped storylines. And the end frustrated me.

I enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait to read book I would give Dragonfire an Adult rating. There is explicit sex. There are no triggers. I would suggest that no one under the age of 21 read this book. I would reread Dragonfire. I would also recommend this book to family and friends.

I would like to thank St. All opinions stated in this review of Dragonfire are mine. Oct 18, Sonja rated it really liked it Shelves: These last couple books have been great and the story has taken a direction that I didn't see coming. I just loved the characters in this one and everything happening just drew me right in. Plus I was super excited to get more of V. And to learn his real name and what came of what happens when he cloaks himself was such a fun tidbit. While this was Roman's book, I think we learn just as much about V as we did about him.

Roman was another amazing Dragon King. He's determined to help V find his swo These last couple books have been great and the story has taken a direction that I didn't see coming. He's determined to help V find his sword because he knows where V was the last time he had it. So off to Romania they go. Being limited in their search makes things hard for them, but V is not the only one desperate for him to get his sword back. His sword is even more special than all the others as it can be used to find and call to the dragons that they had sent away all that time ago.

So yeah, super important to find this. I loved the fact that Sabina was a normal girl doing her best to take care of her brother, Camlo.

Yes, she is descended from important people and yes, she has the gift of 'sight'. But she was truly nothing special and that's what made her special to me. Her brother is basically a fully grown man, but stuck with a child's mind. Despite this, I also thought he was a great character.

He was integral to the story and what needed to happen as they went on. The two of them live practically in the middle of nowhere and that's how Sabina likes it. It's a simple and uneventful life, but that changes in an instant when Roman and V show up. Sabina and Camlo have the Romani blood in their veins to thank for their gifts.

See a Problem?

But it's also that blood that knocks V out the second he touches Camlo. V starts to finally get his memories back of the day his sword was taken. Camlo's gift is the ability to talk to animals, so he knows exactly where V's sword is. It's clear these two siblings are important and it's not long until the four of them are off to finally retrieve V's sword.

Not an easy task to be sure, as they are faced with many challenges and cheat death more than once thanks to this new enemy the Kings face. As the reader, it was pretty awesome all they see and have to go thru before they even find the sword. Sabina's connection to the past and the sword was neat as well. That, and just how much her brother knew all along but did not share with anyone. I was really quite happy with how it all went down at the end and can't wait for V's book.

Compared to the other books, we actually got very little of the other going ons in this world.

A fascinating book has been brought to Usaeil's attention that I have a very bad feeling about. Rhi is still struggling with herself, but she always shows up when the Kings need her help. Then there is Con. Oh my gawd, I have never felt so bad for him before. The weight of everything happening to the Kings as well as every decision he has ever made is becoming such a terrible burden that he is starting to regret so many things.

I don't think I've ever been so grateful that Ulrik was back at Dreagan before as Con desperately needs him by his side. The very end was interesting in a confusing sort of way because we have no idea who these people are or what their end goal is. It's nothing good though, that's for sure. My one complaint about this book would be the random, frivolous use of magic by Roman.

I can't recall a single time they used their magic in a such a way, so it seemed to be used just because the situation called for it. We are told that the Kings don't use their magic for such things because they do not want to become dependent on it or whatever, which I buy. But it just seemed so out of place and out of character for a Dragon King that it kept bugging me. While I can't wait for the next book, I do hope this wraps up sooner rather than later.

It is one of the new cards that make dragon priest incredibly attractive in the next expansion, so it actually becomes less relevant as the number of dragon priests on the ladder grows.
