I liked the biography that I read because I learned that he has turned into one of the most homerun hitters of all time. This book has some interesting facts about his life I was especially surprised to learn that when he was seven he wanted to help his mother inside the house instead of playing with his brothers and sisters.

At the Plate with Sammy Sosa

I would highly recommend it to people who like to read about other people and sport books. I loved this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This great book on Sammy Sosa is superior in every way to most of the "cash-in" paperbacks written on baseball superstars. Well-written, engaging and full of information, Sosa may not be baseball's Superman, but he is an interesting guy profiled in this interesting book. A Kid's Review 1.

This book is terrible. He is 1 of the worst players in the MLB!!!!! This book is not yet featured on Listopia. Jul 23, Jess Farrar rated it liked it Recommends it for: I have to admit--I liked this. I can now see that the Matt Christopher books can be a great way to get reluctant readers into reading. The book is well-written, full of suspense, and it includes insightful details. And, this is a biography! Most kids would cringe at that word, but I think they'd feel otherwise about Matt Christopher biographies. I did feel the beginning of the book stressed Sammy Sosa's impoverished background a bit too much.

It also talks about the baseball records that Sosa tried to break, like hitting the most homeruns in a single season. In the Huddle with She was immediately interested and told me that they needed sports stories badly. Would you like to tell us about a lower price? On the Ice with Mario Lemieux Christopher. Sosa is from a poor family, and as illustrated in the I have to admit--I liked this. Sosa is from a poor family, and as illustrated in the book, his hard work ethic and personal dedication stems from his modest beginnings. But, I felt it was a little too much of the "feel sorry for this poor kid" attitude. I'd be interested to look over some of Matt Christopher's fiction titles.

I looked up Matt Christopher's website and found a lot of useful information. For one, many teachers and parents sent in stories of their children, may reluctant readers, becoming totally engrossed in a Matt Christopher story.
