Hana Rescues Misty

Hana Rescues Misty by Azra Mehdi (2012, Paperback)

KIRKUS REVIEW

If you are reading this on a Kindle the text size is very small. This book might be better read on a laptop computer or iPad. It is however a cute story kids will enjoy.

Hana is a little girl who is coming home from the supermarket when she hears a cat meowing. They look everywhere for the kitten and eventually find it up in a tree. In order to get the kitten down from the tree they have to call the local firemen. They are however not able to get the kitten down so Hana climbs the ladder and gets the kitten to trust her.

Everyone is very proud of Hana and she is happy too. Our three-yearr-old grandson loved this. The illustrations have much detail and tell a story which will interest the young ones.

This is a wonderful story of empathy and courage. While the conflict is sweet and innocent, tension builds and resolves in a way that is dramatic and satisfying -- at least to me and my three year old son. After our first reading, he said, "Read it again" and it now has a place in our repertoire. With realistic drawings and its real-life drama, this story has my child leaning in for the next page every time.

However, he does insist that firemen don't clap!

An excellent blend of compassion and adventure, which educates the reader on the right way to go about resolving a problem, without endangering self. All this is subtley intermingled with quite an ordinary occurrence of every day life - a kitten which is out of it's depth.

It could happen to anyone! The children I read this to found it charming with an upliftingly happy ending. The story is fine--but the print size on my kindle is unreadable.
