Belanger may be giving out some mis-information. From the very beginning: Actually, most shamanic teachers consider the Middle World to be the most tricky, sticky and problematic realm. That's why Middle World work is not widely taught. There are an infinity of realms, each with its own pitfalls, joys, and dangers. The spirits of the un-crossed dead seem to live in the Middle World - that's how they possess people.
My thousands of hours of journeying to The Lower World have yielded vastly different experiences to me than what she is describing here.
Take what you read with a few grains of salt. This opinion is based on what I've been taught, my own experiences of the shamanic realms, and it's also based on hundreds of hours teaching others about the shamanic realms.
But in any case, certainly don't take my advice or anyone else's as gospel: I am a long time fan of Michelle' s Psychic Vampire. I am now a fan of this ad well. Her language is simple and straight forward. She avoids being too much in her head and definitely plays down her expertise in order to bring the reader into a state of understanding how they too, can do this work. Then, look no further. Perhaps I relate to her style and approach being a generation X-er myself.
I admit, I bought this book due to the reputation of the author, and once again, Ms. Belanger did not let me down. Even for those who identify has psychic vampires, I can't help but recommend this book as a supplement. She makes no bones about energy work being a path of learning, practice--and practice and practice and practice. To my delight, I found she oriented a lot of her material towards the solitary practitioner, aware that one would not always have access to an understanding partner, a detail I find sadly lacking in most books on the same subject.

I gave this book as a gift to a person who has a budding interest in this topic area. The person had watched the cable show "Psychic Kids" and was asking a lot of questions which I couldn't answer. Hence, I bought this book afer researching the other possibilities available.
After having a brief "look inside" the book and reading the online reviews, "The Psychic Engergy Codex" is a good choice for a general, basic survey of the topic. By that, I mean that it will appeal to a wide audience who also are asking questions about this very intriguing topic and,the author writes with extensive knowledge of the subject matter. By the way, the person who received the book has told me that it is really fascinating and has raised even more questions for them.
One note of interest, some who are considering purchasing this book might take offense at the author's views on mental health.
