My fitness training is based on a lot of different methods. Depending upon the client, they can determine what method would work best. It could be a functional fitness style, or sometimes it could be a rehabilitative style that might work best.

That should be determined after the fitness assessment. Discuss with the client what you found, and explain the course of action to be taken. That is how I usually work. I believe that a persons muscles strength, much the same as a persons sprint speed or vertical leap is more determined by genetics and how much ATP, NO-2, testosterone, etc. Sure, you can get stronger at the gym, but ask anyone who knows about athletics and they will tell you that strength, like speed, is god given.

Here's a sad statistic: There is hope yet, because muscle development has nothing to do with how much weight youre lifting, but how well you are lifting a given weight. To this point, each exercise in my routine is designed with the focus on the negatives: With the bench, lower the weight as slowly and gradually as you can manage on the smith machine and then lock it out before it crushes you.

Shake out your arms if you have to, then burst that bad boy up as hard and as fast as you can. The idea is to build strength on the way down and improve explosiveness on the way up. When I'm really doing these well and I'm feeling strong during my workout, I usually get four in, but less is ok. With Close-grip hammer pullups, explode to the top of the bar as fast as you can note, if you cant do a pull-up, substitute for a close-grip lateral pulldown and then lower yourself as slowly as you can until you are completely extended.

With the clean-squat-press, power clean the bar to the upright position using your calfs for extra explosiveness, slowly do a full squat the bar will be in front of you and not behind your head , and then explode to a standing position and press the weight above your head using your calfs as well. The negative focus is on the squat, the clean and press are only explosive.

With the Cable Strait-Bar Pushdowns, explode with your triceps to press the bar down and then control it as slowly as you can while you bring it up. With the Cable Flys, bring your hands together hard focussing on feeling the middle of your pecks flex a note of caution, shoulder injuries are among the most common and the longest lasting; that being said, cable flys are probably one of the easiest ways to injur yourself.

Mess around with extremely low weight on the cable flys so that you can an understanding of the motion before hand. With the strait-bar shrugs, no need to negative. Having gone through each exercise once at this point, simply repeat the circut in the same order to a total of 3 times.

As far as rest between sets is concerned, catch your breathe and thats it. With a workout this short and with as infrequently as it is to be done, you really have to power through it. Dont worry about overtraining, every exercise is designed to give each muscle enough rest while at the same time aiding the next exercise in building a particular muscle or group of muscles; in other words, if your shoulders, triceps and biceps are spent when you do your bench, then your chest will pick up the slack: If I had to give my workout a title, I would call it short-circut workouts.

Similar to cross-fit workouts in the sense that there is little or no rest between sets and the workout takes between minutes hense "short". The circut part refers to the fact that you are moving from exercise to exercise with each different set.
