Great set-up, this is a great set-up. I was like "Oh, boy, let the fun adventures ensue! Here are the problems: Kenyon seems to be writing this novel as a entrypoint for new readers. And I do mean excruciating. If you read the last 14 books as I did you can safely skip just about every third page in this novel. Just skip any paragraphs where some character launches into an explanation of something that has already been explained to you 1, times in the course of the series.

This book is painful for Kenyon fans who already know her world and her mythos. She uses Susan as the "newbie" to take the place of the new reader and has everyone explain everything to Susan the reader as if she knew nothing. Susan is allergic to cats. I realize that this is Kenyon trying to be cute and funny, but I didn't find this cute or funny. Ravyn makes Susan's head clog up badly, she is constantly sneezing and sniffling around him, and touching any hair of his makes her skin itch like crazy.

And this is the man she's having sex with. I was cringing, this sounded so unpleasant and horrible. At one point she gives him a blowjob and I was just wincing in sympathy. The idea of doing something like that while having your nose stuffed up and runny, and also having to take breaks to sneeze uncontrollably sounds like a nightmare to me.

What a piece of shit! Kenyon totally plays the fact that Susan's rather violently allergic to Ravyn as a hilarious joke, but the idea of her being with this man for the rest of her life when she can't even sleep in a bed next to him without being miserable is disgusting and horrifying to me. Finally Ravyn reaches a point where he's just like, "I'm going to shave all my hair off.

I guess the idea she was trying to convey was that if Ravyn shaved his waist-length hair and body hair off, he wouldn't be attractive anymore or something. That's the least he can do since for Susan being in the same room as him is like being constantly sick. A never-ending head cold. This sounds like hell. Kenyon has a HUGE thing for long-haired men. Romance such as it is, with flavorless Ravyn and sneezing, suffering Sue takes a major backseat in this book - not only to Kenyon's lengthy explanations of her world, but also to side character development.

Oh, this is what's going on with Nick Gauthier, let's talk about him for three hours. Oh, Ash is having sex with that horrible evil woman again, let's talk about that for two hours. Oh, Stryker, he's evilly plotting to take Acheron down, blah blah blah. Listen, I don't read these stories for Kenyon's unique and elaborate take on Atlantis and Greek mythology. I read them for a good love story and good kissing and sex. Neither are delivered in this book. So it's a failure in my eyes. This chip seemed to only appear when the person giving orders or directions was male. This was never explained, and I a rabid feminist could not really understand her knee-jerk negative reaction every time a man told her to do something.

It made her seem a bit unhinged to me. I mean, she'd unload on a guy for telling her to do something when it is obvious the guy wasn't being an asshole, just making a suggestion or giving her advice or trying to keep her safe. It was unreasonable and weird. And trust me, for ME to be saying that of all people means that it really was. She accepts the blame for whatever happens in her life, and doesn't blame other people or God or whoever for what has happened to her. That was one of the few good things in the novel.

When Susan is introduced to an attractive female character, we get this: Susan started to mention the fact that it was a bit nippy outside for the outfit but held her tongue. Maybe the woman would get a cold and gain some weight At the very least, she'd cover up that perfect body so that Susan wouldn't feel quite so inadequate. Start a new diet tomorrow. One, this grates my cheese. Have some respect for yourself, woman! Do you have ZERO self-esteem and self-confidence?!?!!? Two, this is pretty out of character for Susan. In summary, I hated this book for a number of reasons.

Nov 28, Alp rated it really liked it Shelves: As always, Sherrilyn Kenyon delivers an excellent story, a fantastic combination of Fantasy, Romance, and Action, in her own unique writing style. This book contains an interesting storyline and endearing characters. Ravyn Kontis was a Were-Hunter, an Arcadian leopard, who was betrayed by his human mate and that caused him to lose his loved ones, his family, and his life.

With his wrath and the need to take revenge, he became the Dark-Hunter. Since then, he had lived a life of loneliness. His family hated him and turned back on him. Susan Michaels was once the successful investigative reporter until she wrote one story that ruined her career because she trusted her source. She lost everything, her job, her reputation, her boyfriend, and her home. One day, she got a call from her friend, told her to go to the animal shelter for very interesting news, her whole life was turned upside down since the moment she went there, took the cat out, and brought him to her home.

She was dragged into the world she never knew existed and her life was going to change forever. There were some unexpected moments that gave me surprises, and some sweet moments Ravyn and Susan spent together, which made me smile and feel so happy for them. I loved all the fight scenes in this book, they filled with excitement and danger.

The romance is good, I loved that they took the time to build and develop their relationship and trust. I would have given this book 5 stars if I hadn't had a super big problem with Nick Gautier! I was extremely disappointed in him and I got really mad to the point where I had a wild urge to smash his teeth down his throat.

I hated that he let his anger and misery blind him to his own faults. How dared he blame Acheron for his death?! He acted like a child who couldn't admit his mistakes. He didn't deserve to be a Dark-Hunter! However, this is a very good read and I really did enjoy it so I ended up giving 4 stars to this one. Jul 03, Gavin rated it really liked it Shelves: This was one of the better Dark-Hunter books in the series so far.

I loved the humor and also enjoyed the fact that the romance was on a slightly slower burn than is typical with most PNR books. I felt that gave time for both Ravyn and Susan to grow attached to each other on more than just a physical level. Susan is a disgraced news reporter who has been relegated to working at a paranormal focused newspaper, run by her old college friend, after a scandal cost her her career in mainstream media. Ravyn is a Were-Hunter based in Seattle. The pair meet each other when Susan tracks down a source who has a lead on a story involving the recent vampire-like slayings in the city to local animal shelter.

While there she adopts a strange looking pet cat to keep her cover story in place. That cat turns out to be the Were-Hunter Ravyn who has been trapped in animal form by some new Daimon magical collar. Susan manages to unintentionally rescue him from the Daimons and is soon caught up in the happenings as the Daimons are eager to get their captive back.

The story was humorous and fun. It was helped along by the small things like the fact that Susan is allergic to cats! Susan was a likable, strong, and surprisingly capable heroine while Ravyn was a good guy with a typically tragic back story. I thought they made a great couple and I loved the slow build of the romance as they had to learn to trust each other.

As well as the typical Daimons Susan and Ravyn also had to deal with corrupt cops and the villainous Daimon leader Stryker. This book actually added a bit of depth to Stryker's character. We also got more progression in the overall series story arc with appearances from Savitar, Acheron, and Nick, as well as Stryker.

I always enjoy it when the books in the Dark-Hunter series have a good balance between the novel story arc and the overall series story arc. All in all this was an enjoyable read. This was narrated by Carrington MacDuffie who I always think does a good job with the series. She gets the over the top humor. View all 8 comments. Jul 10, Grecia Robles rated it liked it. But, I hope Nicky will find peace in it. And as usual, it is trashy, cheesy, romantic, and still I am going to continue series! God knows why I liked the kitty cat! View all 6 comments. Feb 14, Denisa rated it really liked it Shelves: I admit, I expected this book to be good. It was funny as hell, I absolutely loved the main female character. She was sarcastic and fun and smart! Least favorite of all the Dark-Hunters in the series I've read the first 10, this being The story did have some interesting backstory on Acheron, Nick and Stryker, but not enough to read the book in my opinion.

The main romance story was a bust. Heroine Susan was like nails on chalkboard who spoke mostly sarcastic comments. I really wanted someone to just slap her down, just once! The hero Ravyn was OK, but his tortured past was no different than any other Dark Argh, frustrating story. The romance was so unrealistic. I would classify this book as a 'wall banger'. The rest of the story just had me. This book is part of a huge network of books. All things tie in together in some form or fashion. These two have crazy white hot chemistry together. And it doesn't hurt matters that Ravyn is fine as hell.

And some heart breaking moments too. I would definitely recommend this read. Lots and lots of badly done sex wrapped very loosely around a
