I enjoyed reading it, and it reminds me of someone I know and is part of my life. She is none other than my sister.
She was always on her feet doing things just Because I know who I am, I'm at ease and free. I can't be like others, And they can't be me. This is a life changing piece. It reminds me of the words of the great Socrates, "Man know thyself. Pretty women wonder where my secret lies. I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size But when I start to tell them, They think I'm telling lies.
I grew up with beautiful sisters, and I was the ugly duckling. To this day I feel their jealousy, and they will never give me respect. I walk proud, and people like me. When your mind is set On a splendid thing you want to do, There are some who will shrug, Like you don't have a clue. When into sorrow, my poor soul sinks When a sound of despair in my heart rings I'm strongly pushed to do my best By a voice that says, "There is still hope you dare not rest. Treat me with love, dignity, respect and compassion Now as I am healthy, vibrant and alive.
Don't wait to hear that I am sick and dying To love me the way I was meant to be loved. This poem is so beautiful and heart-breaking, to be honest. But I get so caught up with my day to day activities Breathe in the fresh air, Put your mind at ease. Let down your hair, Let it flow in the breeze.
I'd like to start by saying that this poem has inspired my middle school students.

I'm a Literature teacher in Mexico, and every year we read poems from different sources. This year I wanted I bend but do not break. I've been lost, but I'm not a loser. I'm a wreck, but I'm not totaled. Just for this morning I won't wash dishes, instead we will color together This made me get really emotional because sometimes I feel like my parents could care less about my existence. It made me jealous and happy.
It made me hope that my mom feels this way about me. God gave each of us a special family that we can call our own. A family that loves us for who we are so we would never feel alone. I was deeply touched by this poem because the family relations are the closest to my heart. Though friends have their own importance, the family can't be replaced with them.
It seems like only yesterday Our lives were just beginning. Your love for us never failed, Our hearts continually mending I look at you and see the thing in my life, I watch you grow and wonder where are all the years going?
What is it you want to say but are afraid to? I love you with all my heart and soul, I promise my devotion, honest and true I would give up life just for you I am at times without words to say My lifelong best friend and now love of my life is in prison for something that wasn't his fault.
