Radioactive Hell (Hell Is Now Book 3)

Deliverance

In the photo, one of only a handful of surviving images taken in Hiroshima that day, Tsuboi is sitting on the road with several other people, their gaze directed at the gutted buildings around them. To one side, police officers douse schoolchildren with cooking oil to help soothe the pain of their burns. As Japan prepares to mark the 70th anniversary of the first nuclear attack in history, Tsuboi and tens of thousands of other hibakusha atomic bomb survivors are again confronting their own mortality. The average age of the , registered survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki attacks rose just above 80 for the first time last month.

While each has a unique recollection of the morning of 6 August and its aftermath, near disbelief at the scale of destruction is a theme that runs through hibakusha testimony. Tsuboi remembers hearing a loud bang, then being blown into the air and landing 10 metres away.

He regained consciousness to find he had been burned over most of his body, his shirtsleeves and trouser legs ripped off by the force of the blast. I assumed I had been close to a very large conventional bomb. There was so much smoke in the air that you could barely see metres ahead, but what I did see convinced me that I had entered a living hell on earth. I saw a schoolgirl with her eye hanging out of its socket. Xavier and Magnolia are in the boat trying to find the metal islands. Along they way the come across new monsters and face mechanical problems.

The citizens of the Hive have been given new hope. With the Deliverance everyone living on the lower decks can move up and no longer face radiation poisoning and starvation. The man who survived Hiroshima: 'I had entered a living hell on earth'

This novel was amazing. The plot was exciting, there was a great blend of action, character development and world building. The actual cause of WW3 was finally revealed and it blew me away. New and creative monsters are revealed that Xavier and Magnolia have to fight. My favorite was the creature from the cover, it was a scary and destructive monster. Xavier was too rude to Magnolia but that is probably caused by him living on his own for 10 years. Magnolia was too reckless and had to be saved too many times.

Michael, Layla, Les, and Erin do appear throughout the novel and they were good. The ending of the novel ended on one crazy cliffhanger. It was sad, suspenseful and intense. I cannot wait for volume five!!! I was so excited to read it and this novel was everything I was hoping for. Nov 07, Danika Fedeli rated it it was amazing.

Hiroshima and the nuclear age – a visual guide

Honestly, Nicholas Sansbury Smith is, hands down, one of the most terrifying authors out there today. Why do I say terrifying? Because his stuff is just too believable at times. A government made weaponized virus escaping Extinction Cycle , a high altitude nuclear explosion causing a nationwide EMP Trackers , and increased technology eventually leading to the mutually assured destruction of the world Hell Divers. Let's be honest, they aren't totally out of the realm of possibility I need more! Let's be honest, they aren't totally out of the realm of possibility! They fight off all sorts of new mutations while trying to find a possible future home for their people. Are they going to be successful? Is humanity finally going to have a place on Earth, again? Is Smith going to kill off any of your beloved characters because, let's be honest, he has no problem with that? You're going to have to read to find out. Basically, what I'm saying is that it sucks you in, takes you through almost the full range of emotions, and then spits you out on the other side BEGGING for more!

Nov 12, Laurel rated it it was amazing Shelves: From one of my favourite authors I was really looking forward to this book's release, and when it arrived I couldn't wait to dive right in see what I did there? And I surely wasn't disappointed. Following hot on the heels of the third book, this one joins Xavier Rodriquez and Magnolia in their search for the Metal Islands and just what are those, one might wonder. But all is not plain sailing by any means. The oceans bring new dangers, not least rogue waves. In t From one of my favourite authors In the meantime, up on Deliverance , Captain DaVita must fight through her own demons and doubts to lead her ship, and the Hive to safety.

But new revelations about humanity's past threaten their fragile existence and, as with all plans in this post-apocalyptic future, every decision comes at a price. Though I didn't find this quite as gripping as previous books in the series due to my own reading-related pressures at the time of reading , like the other three books it went down very smoothly, which in itself is a feat that Smith accomplishes with aplomb.

The writing drew me immediately into the world of X and the rest, and it was easy to slip in and be taken along for the ride with no distractions. If you haven't, go and pick up HD1 because this series is one helluva ride. I cannot wait for HD5, because I have no idea how this'll pan out. After reading the first book in this series I was hooked, on the series as well as everything else this author has written. Specifically to he Hell Diver series and this installment, I have to say again how much I enjoyed the first book, not realizing there were going to be additional books, but I am so glad there has been.

The story is unfolded so well, and his writing style so good and his ability for the unexpected that he truly captures an audience. Each book has unfolds a little more of the After reading the first book in this series I was hooked, on the series as well as everything else this author has written. Each book has unfolds a little more of the post apocalyptic world he takes us into, but this latest volume, book IV, exceeded everything before and what an impact it has as you read it.

If there was one word to describe it that would be it! One thing I highly encourage is that you read them in sequence for two reasons - first you don't want to spoil the wonder off the story and second you would miss so much of the meaning of events as they unfold. I highly recommend this book and this series, but get ready for a ride! Nov 07, Maryjo English rated it it was amazing. Another awesome installment to the series!!!

As a fan of this series, I was very excited to learn that the original trilogy was being extended to five books. There was so much story that could have been told at the end of the third book, and so many directions that things could go. As usual, Nicholas has performed his storytelling magic in book four by continuing right where the third book finished. In a nutshell, the main character of the series is out to find the long sought after haven for his people to be able to leave the skies and also perform some much needed avenging against a group that is just as bad as the mutated creatures he has spent years fighting.

That is hugely understating the emotional ride the reader will take with our favorite characters in this novel. I finished the last page hungering for more and will be waiting patiently for the release of the fifth and final novel. Thanks again Nick for a great book and keep them coming. Nov 13, Lynn Hallbrooks rated it it was amazing. Be prepared for anything when you read this. The fourth book in an ongoing series. I highly recommend reading in order and back-to-back if possible. The post-apocalyptic era is no time for those sensitive to violence, as well as, adult language and situations. While a two-person team sails away to find a potential new home for those on the ancient airships, new recruits are needed for the Hell Divers teams.

Is there anyone left that is willing to risk their life so humanity can survive? I really en Be prepared for anything when you read this. I really enjoyed how the author shared the challenges of being a Hell Diver in a world where anything can and does happen. I was also surprised by a few things that I didn't see coming. Nov 12, Trish rated it it was ok.

This series is far outside my normal reading repertoire, but a friend mentioned in and I had enjoyed the series. Sadly, I can't say I love this installment. The actual amount of plot could have been addressed in two or three chapters; sadly, I felt like this book was an awful lot of filler oh look, more mutant monsters to battle!

So long, hell divers.

The surprise attack using EMP pulses from nuclear bombs has set us back years in seconds.

Planes are falling from the sky, the government is made ineffective and then the second and third attacks occur. The local police chief, a Native American Indian and an Air Force pilot, that ejected from his downed jet, work together to help organize the local population of Estes Park and the tourists to gather food and supplies and get into safe shelter. In addition they have a serial killer on the loose that they have to stop.

The killer is obviously insane and the murders are horrific. Tracking him down is hard without working cars and enough skilled people for extensive search parties. The protagonists are also trying to save their own families from dying. This is an excellent story and I enjoyed it. The proliferation of nuclear weapons provides our enemy nations the power to cripple and destroy our way of life. This book is well written and it's action and storyline is intense. I enjoyed the story and I was also terrorized by the reality that such a scenario is quite possible.

I have read many of the books written by Nathan Smith and I have enjoyed them all. This book is a change of pace and theme for Nicholas but it is an excellent start to a new series. I rated it at 5 stars. The second book of the series has also been released. It is a great story and continues the action filled story line.

What I like is the story is about a nuclear war with North Korea but the people in the story are also trying to survive in a isolated area with a serial killer on the loose. The story is written so that the challenges the characters face keep getting more difficult and it keeps you on the edge of your seat because you want to see if they stay alive!

This story is so well written that it is almost a prophecy of what might happen between our county and North Korea. This is what makes this story so interesting. This story is written in such a way that much of what happens and is written is so believable that it keeps you on the edge of your seat! Right out of the possible pages of tomorrow's newspaper.

This story makes you wonder how you and your family with fare under such circumstances. What I liked about the story is that it contains multiple issues with war and a serial killer along with interesting characters.

I kind of want to squee and splutter words incoherently. If there isn't another book coming as you've reached the last in a series and you've read all his other awesome books, you just sit back and wait for whatever next Nick has decided to write. It was what I call a stringer. The last few chapters are very satisfying. You can get all of my reviews HERE.

The character development in the book is very good and you feel like you are there with them in the story. This has become one of my favorite series of books to read. Each book is linked to the previous book in a continuous saga that just keeps you wanting to read more of the story. As the series progresses the tension and action continues to build and keep you reading. Law and order are gone and the mission of many people is to survive at any cost! The wait for this book was worth it! There is a missing child, and then a killer on the loose. As a result, the Chief of Police has to try and rein in the chaos in his small town, whose residents and tourists, must all be led to shelters to protect them from radioactive fallout.

Provisions and other supplies also need to be gathered and distributed to each shelter. Thrown into the mix is a second attack on Washington D.

Smith blends all of this into a cohesive and compelling story that serves both to entertain and warn, because the possibility of an EMP, especially in our current political climate, is very real. This book was so realistic and well-written, it made me want to immediately go out and buy food and other prepper items to hoard in case of an EMP event. This exciting, fast-paced book has it all! I am going to pre-order Trackers II immediately.

This time he has outdone himself with the beginning of a new series which defies genre!
