Unfortunately, the football genius retired in , just as I began watching the game. Finney has now reached his 90th year and is still much revered in his home town of Preston. World War Two delayed the commencement of his professional playing career but Finney went on to play games for Preston North End, scoring goals.

Although Preston never Paul Agnew's biography is more than appropriately titled, for Sir Tom Finney can't be described in any other way than as a 'Football Legend'. Although Preston never quite made the honours lists during the post war period, finishing First Division runners up in and and F.
