I think of all the books I have downloaded for free, this is one of the best I have found. It is important to make sure you buy this complete collection, because bits and pieces of Whittier's works can also be downloaded for free Whittier is one of the lesser known literary geniuses which abounded in early 19th century America.

Whittier's poetry is more simple then say Walt Whitman's in fact he reminds me more of Henry Longfellow, another brilliant poet, then anybody else but it is that very simplicity which makes his poetry so enjoyable.

I especially liked his nature poetry because of the vivid way he describes nature, which makes the reader feel like they are there at the lake or in the mountains. I also enjoyed his religious poems, which are a good window into his spirituality and how he saw God. Whittier's poetry is very inspirational and relaxing, recommend this work wholeheartedly! There has to be a better copy of these poems out somewhere, so my advice is, don't go with this version!

It seems that no one edited the final draft, because each poem is presented as words randomly scattered across a page, with no punctuation, and no page numbers. The table of contents lists each poem by title, but no page number to look it up. How on earth did this book get published in this raw form?
