I enjoy Josephine Cox's books, which are women's books set in the North of England. This was not a bad read, but not one of the best ones I've read by her. It tells the story of twin sisters, Ellie and Betsy, whose parents were murdered and brother was left crippled when an intruder breaks into their home at Christmas and attacks them and the house catches on fire during the melee.

Vagabonds: A gripping saga of love, hope and determination (Emma Grady trilogy, Book 3)

The girls are devastated and are taken in by kind neighbours who are childless. Ellie is a kind and loving soul and Betsy is an irritible and selfish girl. They grow up being looked after well. Their brother struggles to regain the use of his legs. Into the mix of this family story is an evil man, Peter Williams, whose avarice and evil will touch their lives again and again.
