Staff profile

This is a great book. I have just applied to study law at university, so bought this to do some pre-learning.

It does seem the author might have some political bias as he discusses various reforms throughout the eighties and nineties. Those were turbulent times and while I agree unions can be a good thing for employees and employers, it was the ridiculous actions of some unions that brought this country to it's knees before legislation culled some of their power. Younger students will not remember any of this, but it helped shape the country we live in today.

Smith & Wood's Employment Law by Ian Smith, Owen Warnock, Aaron Baker (Paperback, 2017)

Worth reading just from an interest point of view. I have been using various editions of this book since for my Masters and for reference in my consulting work.

It is so well set out and easy to read. I would recommend this book and future editions for study and reference. I purchased this book for my Master course in Employment Law.

Smith & Wood's Employment Law: Ian Smith, Aaron Baker: www.farmersmarketmusic.com: Books

While its sole purpose was for an introduction to the course this book provides a comprehensive and detailed account of the law. If I am correct it is the most up-to-date account of the Law in the UK on the market, having been published in May I would seriously recommend this book for anyone taking an employment or labour law class at University, and to anyone practising who feels the need for a book to refresh their employment law knowledge. It serves it's purpose and is a useful reference book which will be used by others interested in employment law or studying law in general.
