A DEVILS TALE: DESCENT

Devil's Descent I: purgatory

Ms Christian gives her forewarning that this is a dark psychotic story and she was right to do so. Sep 04, Breeze rated it really liked it Shelves: This was an interesting read. I felt like I was ease dropping on a wicked babysitter telling a not so appropriate love story.

As I stood by the door listening and realizing I've missed the first part of the tale; I couldn't stop it or walk away. A bit confused but glad I stayed for the ending. I usually detest books about vampires who are romanced, sparkly and humanized, soft Julian is not that kind of romance vamp.

He is closer to the animal being than the human being This is narrated and you are not allowed in the characters heads which was hard to get used to. We only got glimpses of their thoughts. Devil’s Descent

I was excited after reading the prologue, I really thought there would be further word-building, but sadly, I was disappointed and robbed of 2 hours of my life. I did not like the book or the characters, I just liked what they could have been. Jan 13, Mahlet marked it as to-read Shelves: This author was rec'd by Kitty Thomas. The Goodreads warning totally sold me: This is a dark, unconventional love story meant for readers who prefer morally ambiguous tales.

Jan 20, Estela rated it liked it Shelves: I've mixed feelings about this one. I liked it but the story seemed to lack substance sometimes I didn't feel a connection with the characters. On that note, it was interesting to watch their stormy relationship coming undone.

Although I enjoyed the book, I'll not be reading the second in the series.

I am a writer who craves to create literary experiences that makes you question your beliefs. Fanfare Ciocarlia are the world's greatest Balkan brass band.

Publisher's Summary

When a band is at the top, the undisputed heavyweight champion, they have two options: Fanfare Ciocarlia are hungry men and, having seen too many Balkan brass bands descend into the farce of playing-standards-too-fast or allowing tone deaf DJs to exploit them as decoration over a lame electronic beat, they chose to broaden Balkan brass's vocabulary. Meeting Adrian Raso gave Fanfare the perfect musical foil. Across several chilly Toronto days the Romanians and the Canadian came together.

Raso called in several heavy friends to contribute to sessions. This album - reaching down to New Orleans, across the Atlantic to Paris, deep into the Balkans and back through decaying Detroit to Toronto's grandeur - is the result. What wild beauty these men created!

Raso's guitar sets off on a fluid journey, caressing and cajoling the horns who tell tales of a music that has ancestors in Africa and India, one shaped in old Europe and young America. Perhaps no one involved guessed such wild beauty would result from these sessions. The story is fun and exciting, and I like to see an Urban Fantasy that isn't all Dresdened up. I have to admit that I sort of took umbrage with the whole demonic side thing, until I remembered that Richard Kadrey did the whole split personality thing with his Sandman Slim character of Stark.

So, it fit in that sense. Cain made an interesting character for Cross to face off against, and the addition of some archdemons, angels, vampires, and witches fed into the frenzy of fun. Again, Jackson does an admirable job narrating the tale. I like his style, and his spin on things.

He really grasps Luther's sensibilities and has no problem smacking you in the face with the story when he needs to do so. I've only heard him twice now, but I am impressed with his class and skill at the mike. I would like to see some better covers in the future, perhaps something that shows Luther in his entirety doing some magic would be nice, and I would love to see an audible collection of those short stories too!!! Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest.

In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.
