The description just touches the surface of this book that introduces the Phoenix Private Detective Agency.

This promises to be another wonderful series from Irene Hannon featuring three former law enforcement officers homicide detective, ATF, Secret Service. They've seen too many cases fall through the cracks during their former careers and have come together to form a detective agency that focuses on justice. Each with skills, contacts, and resources that reach into their past, together they form a formidable force for justice. The story is well written and edited with characters that become living persons in your mind. Research is evident in the realism of limits, proper procedure and time constraints when processing evidence.

It never becomes mundane and boring nor does it trail off into unfinished side stories to hook you into the next book. The scenes are vividly depicted, conversation flows naturally and there are no obvious logistical errors. The romance has some definite ' There is a light to moderate Christian thread that is well done. Freddie is pretty awesome and so is Cruz. The murder mystery held my attention and garnered my interest.

The wrap up of everything was spot on. Aug 23, Dee rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Anyone who likes RS. Sam is called out to a murder scene in the early hours of the morning only to find the victim is one of Nick's closest friends who was about to be appointed a Supreme Court Judge. Of course this is devastating to both Nick and his 'adoptive' family the O'Connors. Nick knew that Sam wouldn't want to be too far from her father so he bought a house a few doors down.

Unfortunately it didn't go quite according to plan as Sam was apprehensive and reluctant to move in with him as her previous marriage was a disaster and left her with emotional scars. There were times when I got really angry with Sam and couldn't understand what she was waiting for. I also got a bit cross that she kept keeping things from him and thought that he dealt with the situations well.

Once again Ms Force did an amazing job with this story and I would happily recommend it to anyone who likes the RS genre. Jun 05, Sue rated it it was amazing Shelves: Updated for a reading challenge: This series gets better with each book, as our stars settle into their fiery hot relationship, real life gets in the way. Bad guys, politics and the media. I'd say now this book was a touch better when you read the series again.

Either are good though and I recommend if you are a fan of a couple series solving crimes. Though the crime was more interesting in book 1. I want to be clear the Updated for a reading challenge: I want to be clear the 5 rating has to do more with the couple and the ensemble cast, the crime was secondary in this story and at times I think the crime solving technique could be improved. I love this series, this book in particular is a solid 4. I can't rate it over the first in the series because it was just that good.

The relationships get better, the ensemble cast is incredibly engaging. You actually look forward to the various snip-it updates MF includes on the secondary characters through out the book. Oh I have so many comments on all the relationships swirling about but I'd have to save that for twitter. The CAST gets a solid 5 out of 5 stars. The 2nd character to die in this series that is a close personal friend of Nick's, a nominee to the Supreme Court no less.

Guardians of Justice

So you get the "what the hell" is going on up on the Hill feel to this 2nd in the series. But, it makes sense for the author to do this to keep Nick involved. She pretty much has to have a crime involve a player in politics. The crime and the solving of the crime is logical and intuitive at times, nothing is spelled out and your often surprised.

But the perfect level of Suspense for a romance vehicle.

Finally in closing I want to point out I love the emotions in this novel, you get nearly all of them but I especially like it when an author can make me chuckled from time to time and this one accomplishes that. Now onto the third in this excellent series. Nick just bought a house a few door's down from Skip, Sam's dad, in the hopes that Sam will move in with him. They have Julian over for dinner and the next morning he turns up dead. On top of that, evidence from a police raid that ended up in tragedy turns up Fatal Justice is a continuation from Fatal Affair except this time a United States Justice has been killed.

On top of that, evidence from a police raid that ended up in tragedy turns up information that might possibly lead Sam one step closer to figuring out who shot her dad and ended his career as an officer. I really enjoyed this second book because it was chock full of action and diversity. We had officers and suspects of different races, genders and sexuality and the author did not disappoint in getting you connected to each one. Like before, Marie is very good at not putting the writing on the wall. Trying to figure out who the murderer is was such a thrilling ride and even when I figured it out, there was even more to the motive than what I thought initially.

I really could put myself in each person's shoes and see where how their thought processes are when their emotions are involved. That being said, I did take off one star because Sam frustrated me a bit sometimes.

Fatal Justice

I know she's portrayed as a sort of broken character who's addicted to her work and skeptical of any nugget of happiness but there were times where she was a bit too selfish and for a badass detective who is able to see things others cannot, she did appear at times completely oblivious even when things seemed really cut and dry and were even explained to her sometimes. I didn't get that vibe so much in the first book so it was surprising seeing it this time around. Overall, I'm still enjoying this series very much and plan to continue onto the next installment.

And for those of us who wait with bated breath for the next installment in the lives of Dallas and Rourke and the denizens of the NYPSD, Sam Holland and Nick Cappuano make a terrific early 21st century alternative. In this second installment of the Fatal series, Sam and Nick are still negotiating the terms of their relationship.

The book begins with their back-to-back swearing in ceremonies. But even before the second ceremony ends, Sam is out on another homicide. Deputy Chief Skip Holland is a quadriplegic as the result of a bullet lodged in his spine by an unidentified assailant, and Sam is determined to bring the perpetrator to justice.

If only she can figure out who the hell it was. And if only she can catch a break in any of her ongoing investigations. But life and work spiral out of control for both Sam and Nick, as their relationship runs into a few rocks. Especially when their personal lives, his political career, and her caseload keep careening into each other.

Nick has to deal with the murder of yet another close friend, while Sam finds herself investigating the death of someone they just had dinner with. The profile of the cop and the senator has risen so high that gangs have put bounties on their lives. Politics is a dirty business, and seems to be getting dirtier all the time. Along with a story about just how deeply hate and bigotry can corrupt a system, a person, and especially a family. This series is absolutely fantastic reading crack. I needed something that would be utterly absorbing, and Fatal Justice completely took me away from the real world for a few much needed hours.

Series like the Fatal series, and also the In Death series that it reminds me so much of, are fun in onesies and twosies, but the patterns get all too clear if one attempts to read three or four very close together.

That being said, this story, just like Fatal Affair , was a whole lot of fun. Sam and Nick are both very likable characters. The reader wants them to work through their problems, which are realistic and over-the-top at the same time. For example, one of their issues is that every time Nick hears that a cop has been wounded or killed, his immediate response is to drop everything and make sure Sam is okay. It is part of who she is.

But in spite of the recent spate of horrible real-life events, most cops do not face as many life-threatening situations in their entire careers as Sam seems to face in an average week. Though it makes for terrific drama. The case that Sam has to solve in this story is a lesson about the price of hate and bigotry. And as current as it must have seemed in , it seems frighteningly real in This is a story where hate and bigotry literally kills.

Which it so does. Recensione sul sito www. Non in quel momento. Sam Holland e Nick Cappuano sono adorabili: Jan 20, Janga rated it really liked it. I even blogged about the lack once at Romance Vagabonds. The suspense plot in Fatal Justice is fascinating, the murder of a Supreme Court nominee with friends in high places, Senator Nick Cappuano among them, and Lieutenant Sam Holland, with whom the Senator is romantically involved, determined to find the killer. Nick and Sam are complex characters, and their relationship is revealed within the contexts of their personalities, their histories, and their occupations.

Sam is unhappy with the media scrutiny that comes with being involved with a politician; Nick is frustrated and frightened by his inability to protect Sam from the risks that come with her job. Secondary characters that include family, friends, and co-workers add richness to the contexts. Second, I find romantic suspense novels often lean too heavily toward the suspense for my taste and give the relationship short shrift. Fatal Justice is exactly that kind of book. I recommend it for fans of romantic suspense and for mystery readers. View all 8 comments.

Dec 04, Mojca rated it liked it Shelves: I really wanted to love this book, but ended up liking it at best. Well, there was just too much going on at once - two separate investigations one of them an almost cold case , a secondary character getting his own sub-plot so he could lose his virginity TMI! I sort of understood him and his ONE! And that was the biggest problem for me. The mighty, ballsy, snark Darn! The mighty, ballsy, snarky Sergeant Samantha Holland not only got promoted to Lieutenant in this book but also apparently got a change of character, because I didn't like her that much in this sequel.

Keeping secrets, lying, not knowing what she wanted The secrets part I would've understood if she also didn't claim not to compare Nick to her ex, the lying I'll never understand And the whole not knowing what she wanted First she wanted to take it slow, she didn't want to rush things. Okay, I get that. Then, Nick freaks rightfully so, she has a dangerous job , and she can't understand why he reacted like that, why he's so cold and distant Suddenly she appears not to want to take it so slow Then she does, then she doesn't, then she doesn't really know what she wants, then there's that operation option after the truth comes out , then Gosh, there are so many ellipses in this review it's frightening, but that's what I kept imagining went on in Sam's head during this book about her relationship with Nick.

If we forget all the dots, the suspense part wasn't bad, the villain remained a secret, and the final reveal was quite a shocker. But what went on beside the murder investigation. Well, dot dot dot.

Dec 10, Marleen rated it did not like it. I really should heed my own advice — when I told myself to simply not read any more of these Fatal series, I should have done it. In itself, the premise of the series sounds good. You have a female lieutenant, Sam Holland, in the Metropolitan D. They are both charismatic and head-strong, and have busy schedules.

W I really should heed my own advice — when I told myself to simply not read any more of these Fatal series, I should have done it. What mostly gets old, is that this couple is nauseatingly in love, and every twenty pages or so, we find them in bed or such some scene. I often say, leave the bedroom scenes to the imagination, it's so much better. Fatal Justice is the 2nd in this series and continues where book 1 left off. Again I tell myself, there are so much better books out there. Despite a great romance and fantastic secondary characters, the excessive rehashing of details from the first book became tiresome and detracted from the current storyline.

So, while I'm not quite ready to throw in the towel on this series yet, one more mediocre read will prove "fatal" and land it in my DNF cemetery. It was narrated by Katie Sparer who I've nicknamed "Smoky the Bear" because she sounded like she chain smokes cigarettes by the carton. I only lasted about five chapters before I tossed my ipod aside and picked up my Kindle!!

Jan 31, Diane rated it really liked it. This book delved deeper into the personal lives of the main characters and branched out a bit into the supporting cast. Very good story line -I like the setting around Washington, DC. Lots of emotion and inner turmoil in this book - interesting and controversial subject matter made for a very good plot line.

Worth the read, and I'm really enjoying this series - getting to know the characters and liking them. Jun 12, Elvan rated it really liked it. The whodunnit was a wee bit too easily resolved but Force is just getting up to speed on this romantic suspense genre so I'll give her a B for suspense and an A for the romantic part. View all 4 comments. Jan 27, May Mostly Romance rated it liked it. So when I received an opportunity from Carina Press, a division of Harlequin Enterpries to review this book via Netgally, I am excited. And I was hooked into the story from the beginning.

Fatal Justice is the second book in the Fatal Series but I feel it is not necessary to read chronologically since I began with this book and had no problem at all to get into the story. However, I would like to advise that there were several spoilers about the first book, Fatal Affair mentioned in this book. So beware of that. This book told the continuing story of Sam Holland, a police and her lover, Nick Cappuano. At the story opening, they were both achieving the pinnacle of their respective careers.

Sam received her lieutenant bar on the same day Nick sworn in as the US senator. They became the newest darling couple of the Capitol Hill and the favorite topic for the media. That made life a little bit harder for a Washington DC police especially when she had murderer to catch. A horrifying crime, which took lives from a mother and her 3 children, unexpected tangled with another unsolved case. The perpetrator was still free and that haunted Sam. If that was not pressures enough, added on another high profile murder.

This time was even closer since she and Nick had dinner with the victim shortly before he was killed. Julian Sinclair was a Supreme Court nominee and moreover Nick's good friend. When his body was found in Lincoln Park shot in execution style, Nick was devastated. He was just losing his best friend happened in the first book and this incident sent him to the breaking point.

He thought he could not stand to lose anyone again. But if the love of your life worked in law enforcement, how could you avoid the risk? As previous mentioned, I heard a lot of good thing about the first book. Several comments compared it with the In Death series by J. However, I feel the uniqueness and the freshness, which distinguish and make the story stood out.

I like Sam for the fact that she is not too tough or too bitching. That would be an easy way to characterize a cop heroine. She may not be sure of her feeling with commitment issue and unwilling to move in with Nick but I never doubted her love for him especially when he panicked about losing her. And Nick, to say I like him would be understated but I always have a softhearted for the hero especially a young charismatic did I mention hot senator. I love that he loved Sam without question and without reserve. The continuing development in relationship between Sam and Nick is great and for that alone I will definitely follow the series after I finish reading the first book.

When I first learned that Nick is a senator, I think he is too young. But considering his circumstance to the power, it is possible. The suspense is an intrigue and really fun for me trying to guess who is the bad guy. I feel the author leaved enough clue so I do not think it is too farfetched for Sam to come up with the killer's identity.

However, not all the loosed end was tied up. I do not expect it to be since this is a continuing series. The balance between the romance and suspense is great, which I think is the most important thing in Romance Suspense genre. But once you knew them, you were hooked and really want to know more.

This series created the whole world of supporting characters, who interesting on their own. The only thing that frustrated me is the first book spoilers. I knew who was the bad guy. I am not sure if it would diminish my enjoyment of the first book. Finally I would like to say this. When I summarized my reading for the year , I complained about the lack of good romantic suspense. I wondered where are they gone. Now I have my answer.

At least one of them is with Carina Press and it is an ebook. Aug 04, Jennifer rated it really liked it. Great characters, good mystery. Lots of action and danger too. A case that touches both of their lives. Danger and passion are just a part of their daily lives. Tough, snarky, female cop and a sweet, sexy senator. Wonderful supporting characters not to mention the media. I liked this, need to be better about working my way through this series. There were a lot of storylines to follow though and I think it made things a little scattered.

The resolution came together almost too easily, but overall it worked. I listened to the audio and enjoyed Katie Sparer's performance.
