Solitude Interrupted

Feb 19, Erin Munz rated it really liked it. I knew from the first few pages that "Solitude Interrupted" was going to be a book that I really enjoyed. It ended up being a book that I couldn't put down. In the Author's Notes, L. Scar says she likes to read "love stories that don't always have the ending you expect about people who are real, get hurt and get back up! The main characters, Laken and Cole, were both very real and believable.

For some reason, I really liked that he took her to Dairy Queen multiple times! This wasn't a love story all about extravagant gifts, over-the-top dates, etc. It was all very real. I was somewhat familiar with the area where the book was set, having grown up not too far away. And I thought Scar's description was fantastic. It took the reader right there into West Virginia. I liked the way that Laken's past was revealed in the journal she gave Cole.

I thought that was a really different approach that worked extremely well. It was really easy to imagine Cole reading that journal and the thoughts that were going through his mind as he found out about Laken's past. I also liked that we got a little bit of Cole's perspective in the second half of the book. The pacing of the book was great; it never felt like the story was slow or dragging.

Soledad interrumpida (Interrupted Solitude)

The "love square" or Cole, Ian, Seth and Laken was worked into the story perfectly, and so much of that really establishes who Laken is and why she is the way she is. It all unfolded perfectly. From the "real life" characters to the fantastic description, I really enjoyed reading "Solitude Interrupted.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Emotional coming of age Solitude Interrupted was a well written emotional coming of age journey. There were times in the book that one couldn't read fast enough. Cole knew she was the one as soon as he saw Laken. He treated her with kindness and patience. He was thoughtful and helped her feel loved and secured.

Laken didn't have a typical childhood or adolescence. She realized early on that the only person you can count in is yourself. She was a survivor in all aspects of her life. I loved the st Emotional coming of age Solitude Interrupted was a well written emotional coming of age journey.

I loved the strength that this young woman showed. The couple built a friendship first that helped strength their romantic relationship. I laughed when they laughed and cried when they cried. The secondary characters were memorable and helped carry the story. Along with the characters the outdoor settings created helped set the mood of the book. The story also contains a little suspense and mystery. I liked the way her past melted into her future. The twists were unexpected and kept me on the edge of my seat. While I enjoyed the book I do wish it would have had an additional chapter.

I could have read more about this couple. Feb 12, Ann Goubert Driven by Books rated it really liked it. Scar but I enjoyed reading this sweet romantic story. Laken wanted to be alone to clear her thoughts and ran into a handsome loving man Cole who took her by surprise. Solitude Interrupted I enjoyed reading this book. The setting, Summersville, WV, is what drew me into the book. Summersville is our favorite vacation destination. Overall the author does a nice job of presenting Summersville in authenticity. I enjoyed the characters as they developed in the story.

Once again outstanding read Characters are well developed and they are "real" people! One can identify with their life experiences! Plenty of adventure and the love triangle is indeed exciting!

The story and concept of Solitude Interrupted were pretty unique and kept my attention the whole time. The dialogue flows and the characterization is great.

This is what I liked most, that the characters are very well-drawn and there is a goodly dose of tension and the unexpected in the plot. I loved the characters the second I met them. Chapter I starts with Laken Harrison and her dog Kona who goes to West Virginia, to a rental cabin where, Mosquitoes, gnats, and ticks can drive a person crazy. A real quest of self discovery for Laken and not only. Laken has escaped personal tragedy and has come to West Virginia to find courage and seek independence.

She tells herself to expect nothing, especially not kindness, least of all from men. Each one of the characters has such a wealth of personality and backstory, rich with depth and layers that the reader quickly becomes vested in each, as they are so real. L J Scar is an author who delivers and elicits emotion from the reader with her Solitude Interrupted novel.

She has a flair for allowing readers to experience the chemistry and the love between her characters, and you will always feel a connection to her story and characters. She manages in finding the perfect balance of emotion and steam. Feb 13, Neeny Boucher rated it really liked it. I couldn't wait to read more of Laken's story and wasn't disappointed by "Solitude Interrupted". The book centres on Laken, after she's finished college and heads for West Virginia to mend her heart, and re-evaluate her life.

What unfolds is a journey of self-discovery, not only for Laken, but the reader as well. A lot of plot points and loose ends from "What Happened In Between" are tied up in "Solitude Interrupted" and the reader begins to understand all that Laken has been through. As an aside, I thought the author did an amazing job of examining what I term as the "intimate terrorism" of someone living in a terrible domestic situation, unprotected by people that should have protected her.

Laken's character growth in "Solitude Interrupted" is phenomenal and the resolutions she comes to with her past and people from her past are believable. Laken's self-discovery is helped, in no small part, due to the wonderful Cole Wales, her next door neighbor, landlord and love interest. Cole is a fantastic character and I loved the slow burn of their relationship.

Scar has an economical use of prose, that leaves events up to the reader for interpretation. The work is narrated mainly by Laken, but we also get Cole's point of view. Overall, I'd like to thank L. Scar for entrusting me with another thought-provoking work. Aug 21, Brenda Brown added it. And then I stress about not giving star reviews I kept picturing Ian Somherhalder with a scruffy beard and, although I'm not sure that's who the author envisioned, it certainly made him an enjoyable character for me! He's independent, funny and driven. He's also determined to befriend Laken, the MC, who moves into the cabin next door.

Laken is difficult to get to know at first. She has issues in her past that keep people at bay and she's pretty adamant about maintaining the status quo. There are allusions to her difficult past, but the reveal is well into the story and it means she pushes Cole away -- which was was difficult for me to reconcile at first.

I could see why she liked him, but he was smitten with her and kept coming back, despite little to no encouragement. As more of Laken's past is revealed, her actions make sense and then I was rooting for them, but I would have liked to see a little more from Laken that would justify how much and why Cole liked her, other than she's his gorgeous, mysterious neighbor. I think this is more of a personal issue, though, than an issue with the story. I really liked Cole and Laken together, so I was impatient for more!

The setting, in the woods of West Virginia, is well described and I was definitely transported there. In fact, I wonder if there's anywhere nearby to go white-water rafting Apr 03, Danielle Evans rated it really liked it. This is a really good contemporary romance novel. Laken is a young woman who just moved to West Virginia to start a new nursing job. She moves into a remote cabin in a beautiful area. Her landlord, Cole, also owns an outfitter that does white water rafting trips.

It's easy to tell Cole is attracted to her, but Laken has had a difficult past and is not sure if she's ready to be in a relationship. For starters, I loved the setting. It was so scenic, but of course, it also reminded me of the movie, This is a really good contemporary romance novel. It was so scenic, but of course, it also reminded me of the movie, Deliverance. The book even pokes fun at that, and Cole has a t-shirt that reads: I really felt sorry for her; she came from a very dysfunctional family. And I loved Cole. He is a genuinely decent guy who treats Laken the way she deserves to be treated.

I much prefer nice guys over the controlling, alpha male that is often portrayed in romance novels. And any book that has a dog in it should get extra bonus points! I enjoyed reading this novel, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a good romantic story. Sep 16, Courtney Psak rated it it was amazing. Laken, which is such a great name for a character, is trying to escape her former life, at least temporarily, while she focuses on herself and tries to figure out what she wants. You expect him to be the type of person who would look for convenience and based on his seasonal profession as a rafting guide not be the type of person that would be good for Laken while she is healing from a very emotional past.

Instead he takes you by surprise with his patience and upstanding chivalry while she takes her time slowly revealing what brought her to West Virginia all alone in the first place. I would highly recommend this book to those who love a well written romance. Sep 23, Claire Gem rated it really liked it. This was not my usual kind of book — one set in the wilderness, with characters who shun society in an elusive kind of way. Nature lovers, hikers, campers. A slow, leisurely pace with exquisitely described settings, this story is as close to real life as one can get — vicariously.

Well written and, for a change, featuring a non-aggressive hero who treats his woman the way we all want to be treated. Oct 09, Brandy rated it it was amazing. That book was What Happened In Between. What Happened In Between and Solitude Interrupted are companion books but do not need to be read together. They are each a stand alone story.
