    Then the five warriors of the order dipped their swords in the blood and prayed for the blessing of the secret god on their deliberations and implored him to help them choose wisely. Old as he is, and feeble as he is usually, i had some trouble to shake him off.

    This book picks up where the other two books left off. But what I liked most about these books was the mood and atmosphere. After reading the Old Man and the Wasteland and then moving onto the second story, The Savage Boy, at first I thought it was an unrelated story just set in the same world. There were two short segments that also seemed somewhat jarring in which Cole switched to the viewpoint of a pride of lions and a pack of wolves. If you like Hemingway think Old Man and the Sea, which he refers to in the book and if you like end of the world plots.

    Already we had barriers to hold them away from the garden and the immediate neighborhood of the house. They seem clever about it, though, so be careful.
