Melkor, the more scholarly of his brothers, controls the wind, he is, in fact, known as the Prince of Winds. Melkor wants to find a mate and even though he is cursed, he does not give up hope. He has the list of servants he has bedded to prove it. But while the Ake kingdom falls, most known for eagle warriors that's right Ake's warriors use giant eagles as weapons Melkor sees a fallen warrior being tended by his eagle and becomes enchanted with the ginger haired beauty, Rimmon.
Melkor whisks the injured Rimmon knowing his identity as a prince almost immediately but does not share who he is to the young man. The hidden identity ploy doesn't carry on for too long, so if you don't enjoy the trope, don't worry. Did I mention Rimmon is a virgin and Melkor takes pleasure in training one word: The sex scenes and near sex scenes were sensual.
The words are descriptive and I could just see the golden skin being licked or see that glass I wish there was a more filler between Rimmon and Melkor on the island. Rimmon is injured and Melkor finds a quick fix to jump to sexy times I'm not hating because that was some sensual sexy times. I would have loved a little more struggle, it's one of my favorite things to read in romance. Yes, the men spend days apart but the time jump was kind of quick so it has that instalove feel.
And Melkor has many names as does his brothers which is fine. I felt discovering their true names interesting but it felt a little much when there narration refers to one name, the brothers call each other either name and lovers are calling their partners the other name. It wasn't confusing but I just would have expected them to choose a name and stick to it. Like servants and chiefs calling a brother by their demon name but the demigod brothers would call each other by birth names. My issues are tiny, see. It might be a pet peeve of mine.
This story is definitely read worthy. I'm not going to recommend it for everyone. I think the readers who would most appreciate this story are ones who enjoy fantasy with an ancient, mythology feel. A quick read that ends satisfyingly HEA. I want to take a trip to Tali Spencer's world. It seems like a fun place.

The plot had a lot of potential and the start was good with good writing and world building, but it soon went downhill after that. The trouble with this story was not so much the world or the plot elements, but the characters.
To me Reviewed for Reviews by JesseWave: To me they were unbelievable and flimsy and very very very flat, devoid of good characterization or reason behind their action. There is a great deal of mythology surrounding this story and it was inventive and nicely done, and while not completely worked out as the focus was on the characters and not the war at large, it was nevertheless interesting to read. Melkor is one of the Demon Princes with the ability to control the winds. He and his brothers are on a quest to destroy the gods of the known world.
Each of the brothers represents their name. They are human, but more. I thought this was interesting and well done to an extent. It would have been nice to see this more implemented into the story instead of glossed over. Rimmon is an eagle warrior, a soldier who has a link with an eagle and uses that link as a tool in battle. It was nice to see this element in the story and the background of that was also something I liked in this story.
Imagine you are going about your daily life, or in the case of Rimmon: Then on comes an invading army that with the aid of wind swiftly conquers your kingdom and slaughters all the people in their path. Injured, you see your entire family killed and their heads put on spikes. You are injured in battle with numerous wounds, a broken leg and cracked ribs.
You saw your childhood friend and crush killed before your eyes and then you are taken captive by the enemy who makes no bones about what he wants from you. I personally dislike it when characters engage in sex when they should be screaming in pain. Broken bones rubbing against nerves are not arousing at all. Never mind that he is the enemy and is indirectly responsible for your entire family to be slaughtered. As you can imagine, this was a great big obstacle to overcome.
He is not forced, though Melkor wants him. This is just something that did not work for me. Even fantasy stories have to have logical — for that world — reasoning. There is no tradition, no arrangement, no nothing except Insta! It gave the story an air of neglect. While Rimmon throws a single hissy fit later on in the story, it is brief and his instantly regrets it to the point of being a nag.
He is violent and crazy. Throughout the story we learn that he and Melkor have been at odds for a while. It comes as no surprise that she is in love with Sarduk, even after he raped her and keeps are as a slave. This part of the story shows the biggest inconsistency and the biggest change. Sarduk is portrayed throughout the story as instable, violent and all-out crazy. He leaves no enemy at his back, except sex slaves who keep trying to kill him, yet when we meet him again at the end of the story he suddenly has a heart.
This smacks as justification to me. It clears the way for everyone to all be one big happy family with kids and all.
Oh good lord, it would have been more believable of Sarduk remained the evil conquering bastard his is. As you can see, my biggest problem is with the characterizations in this story. The characters are adapted to fit the story. While the author is clearly good with words, the dialogue was horribly cheesy at times. While sometimes cheesy lines have their place in romances, sentences like this should not find their way into stories.

Not a very complicated story, but delicious nonetheless: One of those cases where I don't mind the sex at all. It's an absolute perfection, a moment from the lovers' scene, described in the story. It deserves a star of its own.
View all 3 comments. I've been reading more and more fantasy. I like this book because we have the enemy and the adversary fall in love. This fantasy novel included a Horde of brothers who were created by the Gods, and cursed. Each brother had their own powers. Melkor was the youngest brother but he was the underestimated brother, while h "A thing of gold should be treated like gold, not brass. Melkor was the youngest brother but he was the underestimated brother, while his older Brother Sadruk was the conqueror, we all expected him to be an asshole, which he was.
At the end he surprsied me, and that was really good. The beginning of the book was action packed, it starts with Rimmon and a fellow soldier fighting the Horde and his loyal eagle Ayet in the air surveying ahead for him. Rimmon and Ayet have imprinted with each other so whatever one feels so does the other.
Rimmon is injured really bad and left for dead. Melkor just so happens to be in awe with the eagles so he sees one ahead and follows it back to Rimmon. And then people this happens And that people is the end of my review, because what happens next is indescribable and I still haven't found the words. Yes enemies to lovers happen. Yes young prince finds our about horde prince rescuing him. Yes they realize they love each other.

I loved the layered universe Ms. Wounded, Rimmon summons his eagle and captures the eye of the demon warrior, Melkor. Melkor takes one look at Rimmon and falls in love with the handsome prince, taking him captive and healing his injuries.
But Melkor is not what he first appears to be, and Rimmon, too, comes to care for Melkor.
Rimmon is injured really bad and left for dead. Broken bones rubbing against nerves are not arousing at all. Though I grew up as a bit of a nomad, I currently live in Pennsylvania with my husband and travel whenever I can. Melkor is cursed by the goddess never to be loved. The descriptions, not only of the battle, but of the island stronghold where Melkor keeps Rimmon, are vivid and poetic. The sex scenes are undeniably hot, but they also are beautifully crafted, almost musical, and the emotional connection between Rimmon and Melkor is powerful. Another wonderfully crafted fantasy romance from Tali Spencer. I can't wait for the next! Beelam has power over water. Melkor has power over the winds and is the intellectual collector. The three brothers have been cursed by the gods to never be loved so are on a rampage conquering countries and killing off gods. The Horde makres a move against the country of Ake whose main like of defense is an army of warrior eagles, huge raptors bonded to individual warriors. Rimmon is an eagle warrior and also the youngest crown prince of Ake.
The major battle is over in no time flat when Melkor stirs up a windstorm that knocks the eagles out of the air and leaves Rimmon with a badly broken leg among other injuries. His huge eagle, Ayet, tries to bring the young prince around but both eagle and prince are soon captured by Melkor and taken captive to his island home. Rimmon has no idea that Melkor controls the winds and balks at being held captive until he is tamed by Melkor who despite the curse he comes to love. I liked both Melkor and Rimmon as individuals and as lovers they burned up the sheets.
Melkor is a fairly complex character who was very well fleshed out and still surprised me on occasion.
Rimmon was a virgin and very easily trained with sex although he did do some thinking once he realized that he loved Melkor and not just getting laid. The story got confusing tome when Melkor and Rimmon returned to Ake. There was so many references to other countries and the many gods that either a map or a cast of characters would have been very helpful to my following the end of the story.
The book is pretty much two halves of a whole with the first half of the book being the sexed out falling in love of Melkor and Rimmon. The second half of the book concerns itself with Melkor taking Ake and the the desperate race to save Melkor's life. It was in the second half of the book where Ms Spencer lost control of her story and had to rush to a conclusion much like what happened in Sorcerer's Knot. I think that the story would have been much better if the ending would have been thought out as well as how the elixir was going to be dispensed into Rimmon.
Ms Spencer has the ability to write a great sex scene but falls short in my opinion when the sex needs to be tied in to an actual storyline.
I can't recommend this story because of its hard to follow second half which seems slapped together. I was so invested I started feeling extremely anxious. Basically, this is the best kind of gut punch, and I am glad I chose to read it on an afternoon when I had nothing else to do, otherwise there could have been serious trouble.
I was invested, worried and finally -- relieved. I was seriously worried that Rimmon's love for his kingdo I'm struggling to write a review for this book because I didn't read it so much as devoured it. I was seriously worried that Rimmon's love for his kingdom and family and his love for Melkor would end up breaking him and that would break Melkor, but their strength sustained them -- which was a very good thing! The world created in this book is vivid, interesting, and doesn't pull punches.
Tali's stories that I had read prior to this were The Last Cannoli , which was sweet, steady and unapologetically heart-warming, and Thick as Thieves , which is again a punch in the guts, but hilarious with it, so I was not braced for how well she does serious very well. Keep that in mind when picking this up. Muyhul gets intel of a suitable situation to attack Daeso and informs Hae Myeong, who in turn tells Yuri and they plan to attack Buyou after Daeso is killed and his country is leaderless. Chu Balso and his men are hired for the assault on Daeso, which fails and he demands Yuri to deliver Hae Myeong to him, otherwise Guguryo will be destroyed.
Yuri refuses this and prepares for war, but the tribal heads demand him to deliver his son, as the Buyonese army is much more powerful than the Guguryan. Hae Myeong goes to Daeso's camp and kills himself on the latter's demand with the condition of the Buyonese army leaving Guguryo. Muhyul and Maro escape, but are captured by the black shades. One year later, Yuri has strengthened his army and formed alliances with neighbors against Buyou.
In the black shades camp, Muhyul has survived several experiments by the thirst for vengeance against Yuri. The leader of the shades, who's also Yeon's father, realizes Muhyul's intentions and recruits him and Maro after testing them. After weeks of hard training, they become skilled shades.
They also befriend Dojin, another talented shade. Hye-Ap, Gwi Yoo and Chu Balso try to kill Yuri before being convinced that Yuri had no part in either his son's death or the attack on his followers.
Muhyul, Maro and Dojin are assigned to kill the Chinese tribute in Guguryo, ending with success. With a conspiracy staged by Sa Goo, a Buyonese authority, Daeso orders the shades to kill Yeon's father and herself. Dojin, who is also in love with Yeon, kills her father, but tells Muhyul to help her escape to Guguryo. Sa Goo reassigns Dojin abroad to get rid of him. He escapes and convinces Bae Guk to recruit him. Daeso assigns Muyhul and Maro with killing Yuri. They travel to Guguryo and Muhyul tries to kill his father before being stopped by Hye-Ap.
Yuri realizes the truth about Muhyul's identity and is convinced about the prophecy. Hye-Ap persuades Muhyul of Yuri's innocence and Muhyul convinces Yuri to allow him to atone by killing Daeso, who survives by Dojin's in time warning, revealing that it was Daeso's order for Dojin to infiltrate Biru.
Muhyul finds out his true identity and is introduced to the authorities by Yuri officially. They don't accept him because of the prophecy, but Muhyul convinces them to give him a chance to prove the prophecy wrong. Yuri's wife begins planning to make her own son, Yeojin, the crown-prince. Daeso holds a celebration and invites Guguryan tributes. Muhyul travels as the head of the tributes with the plan to spy and gain intel.
They realize that Buyou is preparing for war. Muhyul returns and decides to ready the army. Six months later, The Buyonese army starts marching towards Guguryo and Muhyul gathers the army and confronts them, but the Buyonese army wins the battle by its special chariots. Muhyul finds a countermeasure to the chariots and wins the next battle. Daeso orders the army to retreat.
The victory becomes a political success for Muhyul and after Yeojin's withdrawal from the campaign, Muhyul is announced the crown-prince. He marries a maid from Biru according to law, but refuses to sleep with her, as his heart is still with Yeon. Sang Ga is killed by the black shades. The loyalists retreat to Julbon. In the civil war, Yuri and Yeojin are killed. Muhyul gains the upper hand by making a division between Bae Guk and Daeso, with the latter leaving Guguryo and the former being defeated and exiled to a labor camp.
Muhyul becomes the king. His wife helps Dojin return Yeon to Buyou. He gets angry after realizing that she's pregnant from Muhyul. Two years later, Muhyul has added many regions to his kingdom and Yeon has married Dojin and raised Hudong, Muhyul's son. Dojin proves Sa Goo's conspiracy, resulting in the latter's execution and the former becoming the presumptive crown-prince; as Daeso has no son. The final war starts between Guguryo and Buyou in which the latter is defeated and dissolved.
