Usually delivered in days? Repro Books Limited 2. Listen here is a secret that was made known to me, it was but the breath of a whisper overheard. It was the hour when night visions breed disquiet, as men lie chained by sleep, fear took hold of me, a fit of trembling that thrilled my whole frame and made every hair bristle. All at once a spirit came beside me and stopped there it stood, no face I knew, yet I could see the form of it and catch its voice, light as a rustling breeze.

She is well travelled and has visited several countries. This is her first attempt at writing. This book should come with a warning: Be ready to be spooked! Many of the stories are so dark and intense that they will linger in your mind for days. I had to read the stories a few days apart as I was truly shaken by some of the concepts in them. If not for that addition to the storyline, this could have been a worthwhile read.

Nonetheless, despite my reservations, I am still hoping that Ungifted will prove to be what its predecessor is not — memorable with no I wish! Keeping my fingers crossed. View all 8 comments. Oct 16, raindropsandroses rated it it was ok. Kelly Oram has finally let me down. In the most brutal fashion. I would've given this book 1 star but the plot was decent and I have a pretty soft spot for the writer. My main issue was with the characters. But gun to my head, I'd probably choose Russ. Gabriel was just so boringly bland and quoting romeo and juliet??

This book had so much potential but it just kept getting worse and worse! The only reason I finished the bo Wow. The only reason I finished the book was that I was morbidly curious as to how much more of Dani's bullshit I could take. Usually, Kelly Oram's heroines are spunky and funny but Dani was just spineless, annoying and idiotic. The way she kept following Gabriel's every word like it was law got really old, really fast. However 'unnatural' her relationship was with Russ, it's probably the lesser of two evils seeing as how her bond with Gabriel was the result of torture.

And WHY was she totally okay with being forced to marry the guy even going so far as to defend the Council's actions? Talk about being brainwashed. She's so dependent on him, it's crazy. I'm probably going to read the other books though just to see if this whole fiasco of a book will be resolved. Feb 26, Marni rated it it was amazing. I really really did. I'd give this book a 4. So there's this thing I have about love triangles I don't like them. They can be hilarious at times, but generally you already know who the character is going to end up with. But somehow this book just makes it work.

She's a feisty little thing in the beginning, and it gets lost throughout most of the book because the whole "breaking the bond thi I loved this book. She's a feisty little thing in the beginning, and it gets lost throughout most of the book because the whole "breaking the bond thing" I'll explain it later makes her someone who's so needy and clingy. But closer to the end, she becomes the person who she once was. He's such a freakin' douchebag at times.

Especially the situations he puts Dani in makes me want to punch him in the face. His character is flat though, to be completely honest. He's either an asshole or pining for Dani's love. He manages to do both at the same time though The other vertex in this love triangle. He's so proper and just.. He's been major support for Dani throughout the book. I do believe his character has potential to grow, especially because we find out view spoiler [ that Gabe has a tattoo which was definitely a shocker since he's been sheltered by the council since he was 6?

And he defied the council by doing that.. Maybe its just me But I loved Gina and if you put together all the times she spoke, it might only add up to two pages and I think I liked her more than Gabe. Duncan- Dani's guardian was really funny and I saw him as another father figure to her. Again, I liked him a lot. I just really did. If Kelly decides to have a spin off about him, i'd read it. I'm getting a little ahead of myself, but Alex Alexander is Russ's father and is also another father figure to Dani.

I didn't see it coming. But he loves Dani like she's his own and you can clearly see that he believes that what he's doing is good and it's all in the name of family. Concepts I liked in this book: Chameleon- This is pretty cool, I've never seen this concept done before which is pretty bloody cool if you ask me. It lasts about 6 months I think. It makes a character very clingy. I guess it can definitely work to an advantage I don't even know where to begin. It definitely has its pros and cons. So a bond bare with me, i don't recall the book having a clear definition of this is something that forms between two supernaturals when they share enough energy that a relationship is created no, it's not always romantic if you were wondering.

I believe it can only be formed during the cravings because you're most susceptible to their energy and you become dependent and influenced by it. And I don't mean the person controls your will or actions or anything like that When I say influenced, its just that the person is more likely to believe their bond partner than another person.

I guess its like a high level of trust is developed in a short period of time. Yes, thats exactly it It kind of reminds me of Cassandra Clare's concept of Parabatai. Its the same in the simple fact that once this bond is formed, it can be severely detrimental to their health if it's attempted to be broken and can also lead to death. I think there was a point when she started going a little crazy and tearing out her hair.

Gabe randomly quotes shakespeare. I didn't understand the need for it. It doesn't even seem relevant to the situation when he does it. Lack of character development for the main characters. So much more could've been done for them, but then again I believe that makes up for the awesome plot. All in all, this was the first book i've ever read by Kelly and I'm excited to read the sequel to this as well as her other books.

Dec 01, Nitzan Schwarz rated it did not like it Shelves: October 10, Edit: I found all the old notes I wrote about this one while reading. I choose not to publish them at the time because I didn't want to hurt this novel due to my massive love for Kelly Oram, but now that the book has been out for years I feel like it's okay to do so.

Following are my notes, in bullets, kind of all jumbled and including spoilers: I just instantly loved the chem October 10, Edit: Falling for Gabriel was like legitimizing what they did to Dani; forcing them together and taking the choice and their freedom of choice out of their hands. It made me gag and brought chills to my spine. I think everything would have had far more impact if she had a grace period. He's too perfect and righteous and naive and innocent and ARG I do not care for this guy. But the worst part of it is that his stupidity and naivety end up being "right".

I wanted Dani to be right so Gabriel would snap out of it! I simply despise his existence! To me, it's very clear that she saw them together because she saw them together. The premonition led to things happening. Without it, none of it would've happened. It seems Oram well and truly wants to validate everything the councilor did which is really weird in light of her other literary works. I do not approve of a single thing and I wanted something far more shocking to happen.

I love you Kelly Oram, but this one just hit all the wrong spots! I'm actually not a fan of love triangles. I guess it just has to be done right, or there has to be enough other stuff surrounding the story to push down my inherit dislike of love triangles. And this book failed to do that for me. What's weird is that I knew going in that there was a love triangle uh duh, it's in the blurb , and quite frankly being a huge fan of Ms.

Oram and being a part of her fan club, other readers inevitably even spoiled it for me because people forget about that when they get excited and start fangirling , and so I even knew which boy probably won out in the end. Although, I guess that kind of ruined my read of this book a bit as well kind of like More Than Jamie Baker being a bit spoiled for me ruined it a bit. People are so well meaning, but it really is hard to avoid spoilers once you join a fan club.

Don't join the fan club until you've read it all. OK, that was a stupid tangent to get off on. So we start this book with Russ and Dani. And even though Russ could be kind of a prick at times, I kind of fell for the two of them together. I mean come on, they were hilarious and the bantering was funny and I really did feel chemistry.

Who doesn't love those? And OMG the paranormal stuff was so fun and exciting and intriguing, and I really was loving most of that!!

And we meet book boy 2. And from that point on I just never really got back my verve for the story except in pieces here and there. You see, not only was I only meh on Gabriel he was ok, just nothing spectacular IMO , I really didn't feel Gabriel and Dani's connection at all no matter how many times we're told it's there. Or rather it doesn't matter?

Why wouldn't you want to break that bond and then just try to fall in love with whomever you fall in love with? Gabriel was sweet, but rather flat and one-dimensional, and I guess I get that he provides a contrast for Dani, but I just couldn't accept her easy acceptance of this new relationship. She constantly "chose" it, but why? Did he make her feel good? Did they have fun together? Where's the meat of the romance? I wasn't feeling either anymore.

So for me, this book was an epic romance fail. Now on the supernatural side it was kind of intriguing. Dani's powers were quite cool, and I enjoyed the "fight" type scenes throughout this book. And sometimes I felt like Dani, Russ, and Gabriel were freaking idiots for not being a bit more cautious all around with all the powerful warlocks that they could encounter, but apparently I'm just paranoid that way. I always had it narrowed down to 2 suspects, and a part of me was mildly disappointed that it wasn't who I wanted it to be, but in the end it made the most sense.

So fantastic mystery element. And I will say that the climax was quite emotionally impactful for me. I'm actually very excited to see what else we'll learn in the future stories, and how the world will unfold. And I totes agree with other readers, Duncan is da bomb. He disappointed me here and there, but he was one of the better characters in the story, particularly for such a minor one.

So I am definitely reading the next book in the series. Especially since it's from a different character's POV and so we'll get a fresh chance at a good romance. Have you read this book? Did I miss something? Jul 15, Jacob Proffitt rated it it was ok Shelves: This failed to hit with the premise, as much as anything else. It's too bad because I kind of liked Dani and some of the relationships were intriguing. The premise that kills it for me is the whole "supernats must be energized by each other to thrive" thing.

I know that seems harmless on first blush, but add an abusive, power-mad council running things with no checks and that said council is willing to "starve" a teen girl to oblivion to force her to their will and the abuse was more than I coul This failed to hit with the premise, as much as anything else. I know that seems harmless on first blush, but add an abusive, power-mad council running things with no checks and that said council is willing to "starve" a teen girl to oblivion to force her to their will and the abuse was more than I could take particularly with the number of people who had to have been party to it.

And yeah, I like the guy they're trying to stick her with and it totally isn't his fault that they're taking advantage of both of them and their collective naivety and the hints that they'll get out from under it is interesting to me. But then I put it down for a day. That turned into a week. That is now months and I can't bring myself to pick it back up because that premise is such an invitation to abuse and I just don't want the story of the characters enough to put up with the deck stacked by nature aka the author against them.

Soon, Dani is thrust into the world of the supernatural and is told that she is to fulfill the great prophecy. This novel definitely was not boring. There was such a great and busy story line that it never got dull. There were also some unexpected twists and turns and misleadings that you never exactly knew what was going to happen. Leading Lady Dani was the leading lady. She was definitely a strong character. She was brave and strong when faced with kidnappers, torture, and everything else evil in the world. She was an inspiration, and she wanted to go what was right.

In that way, she was also a very selfless character, and I immensely enjoyed reading about her adventures. Leading Male This novel definitely has a love triangle in it. So of course, there is some confusion about feelings when the day she gets thrusts into the supernatural world he admits that he loves her.

Russ was a very…unique character. He had a very strong personality. He was cocky, vain, and actually kind of a jerk to everyone but his father and Dani. He was a great and well-written character, but I have to say that I liked Gabriel much more. Gabriel was the other guy. He is the current Seer in the paranormal world. He was sensitive, innocent, and naive, and they was just really attractive in him. He was faithful and good, and refused to see the bad in anyone. He was that ray of sunshine and hope in bad situations. And he had a few little cute quirks.

And he talked all formal-like. It was super cute. They had a very light and teasing relationship that I loved reading and seeing glimpses of. You could tell that they quickly formed a brother-sisterly type of bond soon after they met. Romance There were two very distinct types of romance in this novel. There was Dani and Russ, which really, was just as confusing for me as it was for Dani.

It was a tricky thing. On the other hand, there was Dani and Gabriel, which just felt more realistic. Gabriel and Dani together were just as sweet as honey. World Building Although the paranormal creatures that we witness in this novel are common, Oram concocted a tale that was unique to her novel. Adding in Cravings and things like prophecies and Councils made what could have been a very boring book interesting.

Other than that, Oram definitely put some thought into the world that she created. It was meticulously thought out with explanations for anything and everything. Conclusion Chameleon was a outstanding novel about a girl fulfilling a prophecy and choosing who she wants to love. Apr 14, TheBookLion rated it it was amazing Shelves: SO GOOD It was different from most of Kelly's books, because this one we have a supernatural added to the cute, innocent romance that make tiny glittery butterflies feel in your stomach.

I love the book! I love how refreshing it is to see the main character, Dani denying the supernatural world. It's quite normal actually, the panic, the horrifying feeling and also feeling betrayed. She was raised human, she has human feelings though she is something else I said that in the Arrow's voice She is SO GOOD It was different from most of Kelly's books, because this one we have a supernatural added to the cute, innocent romance that make tiny glittery butterflies feel in your stomach.

She was raised human, she has human feelings though she is something else I said that in the Arrow's voice She is a I really liked him, he was fun, even if he was a major jerk but poor boy, I hope he found his happiness in the third book. He deserved someone to love him, someone NOT similar at all like him.

Like Dani got someone who can calm her down, someone who is her weakness and her strength. People, Gabriel is everything. Okay he's not the knight in shining armor, not the badass badboy who comes to save the damsel in distress, though he did take care of Dani after she was left in the White Room but still, he's a pretty decent, cool and chill person. He's water to Dani's fire and it's just explosion, magnificent. I did not expect who the traitor was, I was to concentrated on Dani and Gabriel, i did not watch to miss any details. Yet I doubted the High counselor as he fits the traitor image quite well but damn, it's always the one close to you and the one who has always been good to you that betrays you hard.

Obviously, if the person was not close to you, you wouldn't give a shit. Anyway, I'll perhaps read the other two books in the near future.

What is Kobo Super Points?

Especially the one on Russ. Feb 18, Jennifer Scott rated it liked it. I'm a little torn on this book. I liked it, but then I didn't like it. The book as a whole, I liked. Minus the whole love triangle that just seemed forced to me. Why didn't she end up with Russ? Oh, because she was tortured for two weeks where she was practically dying, and then she was placed with Gabriel. So as she was getting better, he was always around, caring for her.

So she started to have feeling for him. She now has a dependency issue going on, where So She now has a dependency issue going on, where she can't live without him. There's a term for that I just don't agree with it. Before this, she was in love with Russ which I agree, neither of them had a chance to love someone else , but would someone really just put 13 wasn't sure of the actual number, so I'm guesstimating years of friendship behind them like that?

She may have had her bond severed from him Though, I guess it might be better for Russ for it to happen like that I just thinks its wrong. I didn't like him at all. I felt that he didn't have a personality. Or maybe it was that he was too formal. No matter how hot his tattoo may be. Even though I saw it coming I didn't see it coming or I just pretended I didn't. Now that I think about this Russ really did lose everyone he cared about. I'm going to be in denial until Russ has a happy ending!! Dani did say they favored Nov 03, Donna Hatch rated it really liked it.

A vividly imaginative young adult novel of paranormal and supernatural creatures, and a 16 year-old girl's struggle to find her place in this frightening new world. This fast-paced, action packed paranormal romance had twists and turns, and no true certainty who the bad guys were and who were the good guys. The heroine had a believable character arc, maturing from fairly self centered to much more noble and caring about others, and about doing what was right. There was an absolutely heart-wrench A vividly imaginative young adult novel of paranormal and supernatural creatures, and a 16 year-old girl's struggle to find her place in this frightening new world.

There was an absolutely heart-wrenching love triangle, which I usually hate, but the author pulled it off well, although I would have preferred she gave more attention to the new guy who arrived on the scene later, and developed him and his relationship with the heroine a little more. But he was still likable--very much so--and I felt very torn between the two boys.

And even though the book ended on a "happily for now," it had a such satisfying enough ending that I closed the book with a sigh, and yet excited to read the rest of the series. It doesn't have any sex in it, but be aware there is some "biblical" swearing in it which will bother conservative readers, and is the one reason why I hesitate to give it to my teens to read.

May 16, Charissa rated it it was amazing Shelves: Great YA paranormal romance. Please, spare yourself from this book. I'm writing the full review ASAP. For now, I'll leave it at this. Two boys fight over 'The Chosen One' who is an incredibly powerful anomaly. These two boys are petty and naive. Their personalities were inconsistent with their actions and even more inconsistent with their words. Then call a girl 'Skank O. Then call a girl 'Skankilicious'?

I cringed, and tried to move on. Please, for the love of Poseidon, Don't. There are books that follow this trope that actually manage to do it really, really well. I just feel like the author needed way more I'm not sure what. Nothing was put together well. Plot holes you could drive a Bat-Mobile through, shoddy dialogue, poor premise Jul 20, Becca rated it really liked it Shelves: Those are my picks for this book: Even better yet i became ridiculously addicted to this book, while i was at work i couldn't stop thinking about it and just hoping that the costumers would leave so i could get back to it!

Unfortunately there was something that rubbed me the wrong way hence the four stars not five, but i still love this book. I thought it was beauitfully written, the voice of the MC was strong for the most part, the twist and unexpected, just plain frustration it brought to me made me really happy, and for the life of me i couldn't guess what was going to happen! Stay tuned for the rating dropping, i swear i am not trying to be ass but this is suppose to be the short part of my review.

So well thought out, while the MC's were confused and frustrated and trying to figure everything out i was in the same boat, i didn't know who to trust, i didn't know who the "bad" guy was, i didn't i was just as confused as everyone else. But isn't that the great thing about the grey area?

There is no real right or wrong answer, it comes down to what its right for you, what is right for everyone even if that means you don't belong to group a or group b, it means you will stand as an individual to do what is right! So with all that said uuumm the romance Holy mother of love-triangles. I was ready to either punch Dani in the face, or pound my head against a wall until it was over. Okay so be aware there is an intense love triangle here.

You can't even believe the crush i had on this girl when the book started. I loved Dani, I loved her voice, i loved her personality and i loved how fun she was. She had this awesome mixture, of being totally, sassy, smartass-ed sort of the same thing i suppose , she was kickass, brave, but also still very girlie in the fact that this is a girl who is 16 and never had been on a date or have been kissed.

I really fucking loved her I wanted her to be that sure hearted, passionate girl we met at the beginning of the book! I did sort of hate her a little at some points because she was making it hard for us to believe how she felt about either one of the guys, i mean she was being very quiet even to the readers about how she felt, and i understand that was part of her character as well she doesn't like those mush-y mush-y moments, fine that is okay but you also did tell us in the beginning how much Russ meant to you and when you are picking between our two men i need you to be that strong, fun, awesome girl again.

AND i will not take it out on her too much because she is also scared, and she has been thrown into something she doesn't fully understand so because of this reasoning i just talked myself into a little bit i think its time to change the rating to 4. And i did admire how well she took most of everything, i loved that she didn't need to be the total badass all the time because lets face it kids we can't be badass all the time, well besides Katniss that but that is because she is like on steroids or something ; sorry finally watched the trailer to Catching Fire I always love the fun loving one!

The funny, amazing at pranks, sexy one is the one i always fall for. And He was truly the perfect first love, but unfortunately all awesomeness has to come to an end sometime. He was hurt i understand that but he broke my heart as well in so many ways! I thought Russ was a fantastic character and i feel we are not done with him, we are no where done with him really. Russ had a tempter on him as well, he could be a bit of an ass but he was a good character and i really liked him.

Okay Gabriel has an interesting past, and he is a bit Is it too much to ask for this boy to become a bit of a rebel, well he is a bit rebellious i suppose, boy does he have a surprise for you! He did make me want to punch him in the face a couple times, i was like grow some balls and act like a man!

I read far to many Alpha male types, because this is the type of guy i would have normally been all like AWWW before There is still lots to come from this i am sure but for right meow you can rest, breathe, get your bearings! Very, very last thoughts: I truly did love this. I thought it was fantastic and i cannot wait to read the next one Alright so if you enjoyed this review, YAY i am doing something right.

And you can check out more amazing indie authors, and books at this wonderful little place called the Violet Hour Book Reviews which definitely isn't my bllllooggg Jul 31, Sa rated it it was amazing Shelves: I didn't think I'd get hooked so much by this book that I'd binge-read all night! That cover is simple, but also beautiful. Strong, intelligent, loyal, and fun; it was great being in her head. Gabriel is the perfect match for her. Normally, I loathe love triangles, because of the back and forth between two people and drama, but in this book it was done really well. What's more, is that Dani's relationship with both guys are severely manipulated, but only one of them was I didn't think I'd get hooked so much by this book that I'd binge-read all night!

What's more, is that Dani's relationship with both guys are severely manipulated, but only one of them was truly good for her. Gabriel seems quiet and almost bland, but there's so much going on beneath. I find it interesting how the author wrote Dani's relationship with both guys. Dani was unknowingly manipulated into relationships with Russ and Alex.

Alex knew very well how dependent she'd be on them and how strongly it would effect her very essence as a supernatural, and not just that. She'd also be fully in his control due to her ignorance, and her love for them. In my opinion, it is so much more chilling to be manipulated without our knowledge by someone we trust. The Councillor was hateful, for torturing her so brutally to break her bonds with Russ and Alex, but it was also Alex's fault for making Dani unable to form relationships with other supernaturals.

Had she a choice she'd have wanted to be closer to others, as is proven by her friendships with Duncan and Gina. So, Alex also had full blame for Dani's torture. As for the Councillor, WTH, dude? Couldn't he with all his resources, have researched something less painful than torture to break her bonds?

What I love about this book is the romance between Gabriel and Dani. The chameleon thing was super cool, but other than that it was pretty blah, blah to me. Many races of supernatural creatures, meetings, same old stuff. The romance was what was deeply moving.

He reached up and put his fingertips to her cheek in such an intimate gesture that I was jealous of my other self. I always used think that I liked domineering Alpha males a lot, but now I can see the appeal of Gabriel's quiet honesty. He was the reason Dani was kidnapped, but he didn't know nor approve of her torture. That he was vehemently expressing his hatred of Dani's situation was a huge point in his favour. He did say that they were married by the Council's order, but throughout the book he always respected Dani's choice to leave him if she chose.

He understood her love and loyalty towards her family and Russ and Alex, and her grief in separating from them. It was a constant contrast between his behaviour and Russ's behaviour. I liked Russ in the beginning. He was fun, cute, loving. But when he met her again and realized he had competition, he turned pushy. There was the ease and love of so many years of friendship, but he became demanding for a romance, and when Dani didn't respond the way he wanted her to, he became aggressive and ignored her freedom to choose.

And that killed his appeal. He stood upto his father figure and council for her. He respected her intelligence, when Dani had a point about mistrusting his lifelong mentor and only close relation, he was willing to go with her. Though their marriage was forced, he respected her choice to leave if she wanted. He only intervened between Dani and Russ's when Dani clearly told Russ to stop kissing her and forcing her into it. Dani and Gabriel's private moments were my favourites. He treated her so gently, as if she was something to be treasured and well-loved. I always love when a hero not only loves and respects the heroine, but is also utterly wowed by how awesome she is.

Unlike, her relationships with Russ and Alex, Dani was suspicious of Gabriel and hence thought more of his actions and character, and accepted him of her own free will. She wasn't unknowingly manipulated. The climax wasn't as good as it could have been. Dani and Gabriel could have been written as an awesome power couple, but noooooo. Gabriel just had to lay there! What the hell, author? You gave him so many endearing qualities, why didn't you make him stronger and make him as fighter? I know it's not in his nature to be violent, and that Dani's the star of the show but even calm people fly into uncontrollable rage when their loved ones are threatened!

Alex was a truly awful villain, because the only thing worse than a horrid, monstrous villain, is a villain you we manipulated into loving since a child. The ending could've used more romance. All the major relationships expect the one between Dani and her parents, but that wasn't focused were unusually dependent and manipulated.

The urban fantasy and paranormal aspects weren't very impressive.

I got to admit I was a wee bit weary when I started this novel. So much more could've been done for them, but then again I believe that makes up for the awesome plot. She turned into something I believe is even worse than Bella, and I realy didn't think that was possible. Mitchell Earl Gibson MD. I struggled to connect with the characters the most. Jun 13, Burgandy Ice rated it really liked it.

The climax was almost boring. What a surprise, Dani can assume demon form too! Gosh, what a missed opportunity! He could've done some cool shit, and made it all romantic and taken their chemistry to another level! It's still a moving love story. Though part of me wishes it had been adult, we could have had a fabulous love scene or two. Jun 13, Burgandy Ice rated it really liked it. She jumps into this urban fantasy with the same feel of wild abandonment I love in V is for Virgin. She uses exclamation points!!!! The trouble with the love triangle is not so much… the love triangle but every motivation behind it.

The pressure mounts… and the persona under fire is the father-figure. Whose father figure is lying? There are peeks in the future that actually make bigger messes of things, rather than clear them up. Which, frankly, felt like fantastic writing that made me really squirm. I was ready to shake the truth right out of anyone I could get my hands on. Also, something I really enjoyed. The trouble comes from choosing a side too early… in this book, no one is above selfish motives.
