ILLUSTRATEURS ET ILLUSTRATIONS DES VOYAGES EXTRAORDINAIRES DE JULES VERNE

The project was originally called Project Sourceberg during its planning stages, in , there was a dispute on Wikipedia regarding the addition of primary source material, leading to edit wars over their inclusion or deletion. Project Sourceberg was suggested as a solution to this, perhaps Project Sourceberg can mainly work as an interface for easily linking from Wikipedia to a Project Gutenberg file, and as an interface for people to easily submit new work to PG. Wed want to complement Project Gutenberg--how, exactly, and Jimmy Wales adding like Larry, Im interested that we think it over to see what we can add to Project Gutenberg.

It seems unlikely that primary sources should in general be editable by anyone -- I mean, Shakespeare is Shakespeare, unlike our commentary on his work, the project began its activity at ps. The contributors understood the PS subdomain to mean either primary sources or Project Sourceberg, however, this resulted in Project Sourceberg occupying the subdomain of the Pashto Wikipedia.

A vote on the name changed it to Wikisource on December 6, Despite the change in name, the project did not move to its permanent URL until July 23,, since Wikisource was initially called Project Sourceberg, its first logo was a picture of an iceberg. The government refuses to launch an expedition, but Lord and Lady Glenarvan, moved by the childrens condition. The main difficulty is that the coordinates of the wreckage are mostly erased, and only the latitude is known, thus, the bottle was retrieved from a sharks stomach, so it is impossible to trace its origin by the currents.

Remaining clues consist of a few words in three languages and they are re-interpreted several times throughout the novel to make various destinations seem likely.

Olivier Sauzereau raconte Les Aventures de trois Russes et trois Anglais

Lord Glenarvan makes it his quest to find Grant, together with his wife, Grants children and the crew of his yacht, an unexpected passenger in the form of French geographer Jacques Paganel joins the search. They explore Patagonia, Tristan da Cunha Island, Amsterdam Island, there, they find a former quarter-master of the Britannia, Ayrton, who proposes to lead them to the site of the wreckage.

However, Ayrton is a traitor, who was not present during the loss of the Britannia and he tries to take control of the Duncan, but by sheer luck, this attempt also fails. Ayrton, made a prisoner, offers to trade his knowledge of Captain Grant in exchange for being abandoned on an island instead of being surrendered to the British authorities.

The Duncan sets sail for the Tabor Island, which, by sheer luck and they leave Ayrton in his place to live among the beasts and regain his humanity.

The description of Nemos ship, called the Nautilus, was considered ahead of its time, as it accurately describes features on submarines, which at the time were very primitive vessels. The title refers to the distance traveled while under the sea and not to a depth, as 20, leagues is over six times the diameter, the greatest depth mentioned in the book is four leagues.

The book uses metric leagues, which are four kilometres each, during the year , ships of several nations spot a mysterious sea monster, which some suggest to be a giant narwhal. The United States government assembles an expedition in New York City to find, professor Pierre Aronnax, a French marine biologist and narrator of the story, who happens to be in New York at the time, receives a last-minute invitation to join the expedition which he accepts.

Canadian whaler and master harpoonist Ned Land and Aronnaxs faithful servant Conseil are also brought aboard, the expedition departs Brooklyn aboard the United States Navy frigate Abraham Lincoln and travels south around Cape Horn into the Pacific Ocean. The ship finds the monster after a search and then attacks the beast. The three protagonists are then hurled into the water and grasp hold of the hide of the creature and they are quickly captured and brought inside the vessel, where they meet its enigmatic creator and commander, Captain Nemo. The rest of the story follows the adventures of the protagonists aboard the creature—the submarine, Captain Nemos motivation is implied to be both a scientific thirst for knowledge and a desire for revenge on civilization.

Aronnax and Conseil are enthralled by the adventures, but Ned Land can only think of escape. They visit many places under the oceans, some real-life places, the travelers witness the real corals of the Red Sea, the wrecks of the battle of Vigo Bay, the Antarctic ice shelves, the Transatlantic telegraph cable and the fictional submerged land of Atlantis. When the Nautilus returns to the Atlantic Ocean, a pack of poulpes attacks the vessel, throughout the story Captain Nemo is suggested to have exiled himself from the world after an encounter with the forces that occupied his country that had devastating effects on his family.

Not long after the incident of the poulpes, Nemo suddenly changes his behavior toward Aronnax, Aronnax no longer feels the same and begins to sympathize with Ned Land. Near the end of the book, the Nautilus is attacked by a warship of some nation that made Nemo suffer, filled with hatred and revenge, Nemo ignores Aronnaxs pleas for mercy. Nemo bows before the pictures of his wife and children and is plunged into depression after this encounter. For several days after this, the situation changes. Verne developed a theme in his later novel, Godfrey Morgan. The plot focuses on the adventures of five Americans on an island in the South Pacific.

During the American Civil War, five prisoners of war decide to escape, during the siege of Richmond, Virginia. The company is completed by Cyrus dog Top and they name it Lincoln Island in honor of their president, Abraham Lincoln. They also manage to figure out their geographical location, during their stay on the island, the group endures bad weather, and domesticates an orangutan, Jupiter, abbreviated to Jup.

The group finds a message in a bottle directing them to rescue a castaway on nearby Tabor Island, on the return voyage to Lincoln Island, they lose their way in a tempest but are guided back to their course by a mysterious fire beacon. Ayrtons former companions arrive by chance on Lincoln Island, and try to make it into their lair, after some fighting with the protagonists, the pirate ship is mysteriously destroyed by an explosion.

Six of the pirates survive and kidnap Ayrton, when the colonists go to look for him, the pirates shoot Harbert, seriously injuring him. Harbert survives, but suffers from his injury, narrowly cheating death, the colonists at first assume Ayrton to have been killed, but later they find evidence that he was not instantly killed, leaving his fate uncertain. After Harbert recovers, they attempt to rescue Ayrton and destroy the pirates and they discover Ayrton at the sheepfold, and the pirates dead, without any visible wounds. The secret of the island is revealed when it is discovered to be Captain Nemos hideout, having escaped the Maelstrom at the end of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, the Nautilus sailed the oceans of the world until all its crew except Nemo had died.

Now an old man with a beard, Nemo returned the Nautilus to its secret port within Lincoln Island. On his death bed Captain Nemo reveals his identity as the lost Indian Prince Dakkar, son of a Raja of the then independent territory of Bundelkund. Nemo also tells his story to Cyrus Smith and his friends. Before he dies, he gives them a box of diamonds, afterwards, he dies, crying God and my country. The Nautilus is scuttled and serves as Captain Nemos tomb, afterward, the islands central volcano erupts, destroying the island. Critics, including Leonard S. Davidow, consider it one of Vernes best books, Davidow wrote, Jules Verne has written no better book than this, in fact it is deservedly ranked as one of the most thrilling tales ever written.

Unlike some of Vernes other novels, it is not science fiction, the book was later adapted to a play, by Verne himself and Adolphe dEnnery. Incidental music to the play was written by Alexandre Artus in , the book has been adapted several times for films, television and cartoon series. Rebels encircle Irkutsk, where the governor, a brother of the Tsar, is making a last stand. Strogoff is sent to Irkutsk to warn the governor about the traitor Ivan Ogareff, a former colonel and he intends to destroy Irkutsk by setting fire to the huge oil storage tanks on the banks of the Angara River.

Blount and Jolivet tend to follow the route as Michael. He is supposed to travel under an identity, posing as the pacific merchant Nicolas Korpanoff. Michael, his mother and Nadia are eventually captured by the Tartar forces, along with thousands of other Russians, during the storming of a city in the Ob basin. One popular version connects it to the meetings with anarchist Peter Kropotkin, however. Set during the early years of the 19th century, this pre-Civil War satire tackles social commentary issues still being debated today. Twain presents the reader with a light-skinned black mother switching her infant with her white master's in order to prevent her own child being raised as a slave. Twain uses humor and irony in revealing seething levels of racism and classicism.
