Bandit Love (World Noir)

Bandit Love (World Noir)

If your hero drinks whiskey, beer, or vodka, it's in America. If he drinks coffee by the gallon, it's Sweden.

If he drinks Calvados and the occasional Prosecco, it's Italy, and your hero is a year-old ex-con turned private investigator named Marco Buratti. Buratti spends a decent amount time in Bandit Love doing pleasant European things like eating duck ragout, having sex, and meeting people in pastry shops. But this is all in pursuit of a larger goal, which is figuring out who kidnapped his friend Rossini's girlfriend, and then figuring out what the kidnapping has to do with a crime that Buratti, Rossini, and a third man named Max committed years ago.

The answer, of course, is complicated, but it involves the improbably named villainess Greta Gardner, a drug heist, and the Kosovar mafia. In the end, it's a little disappointing how easy this mystery is for Buratti and his friends to unravel.

Bribery buys our heroes a lot of information — which may actually be the way it works in Italy — but it's a pretty boring way to solve a crime. Applicable only on ATM card, debit card or credit card orders. Cashback will be credited as Amazon Pay balance within 10 days.

Most helpful customer reviews on Amazon. I struggled with some of his other works The Goodbye Kiss , The Fugitive which are either too over-the-top or too biographical for my tastes. It was a fun read, if a bit scattered in terms of plot.

The story gets convoluted -not only in terms of competing groups of criminals, but also in terms of Carlotto's rants against corruption in Italy: While all of this certainly provides context and texture to the story, it also made for a bit of a rambling read in places.

Smokey Bandits - A Son's Lament

While some of Carlotto's work is an acquired taste, I do recommend his "Alligator" mysteries for fans of gritty noir. Solid but not great effort by the masterful Carlotta in the continuing Alligator series, an unorthodox ex-con private detective of sorts.

Must read for any fan because it sets the stage for the story's continuation in the fantastic Gang of Lovers, but it felt a little rushed and under developed for some reason compared to his other efforts. Though The Colombian Mule is still his weakest Alligator effort. This is a great read in noir. Massimo does it the best. By using our website you agree to our use of cookies.

Description Massimo Carlotto has been called "the reigning king of Mediterranean noir" Boston Phoenix and "the best living Italian crime writer" Il Manifesto. Here, making his American debut, is Carlotto's most famous and beloved serial character: Closing the door on a crime ridden past, Marco Buratti plans to spend the rest of his days in the darkness of a seedy nightclub sipping Calvados and listening to the blues.

But things don't quite work out as he planned: When his gangster friend, Beniamino Rossini's girlfriend is kidnapped, Buratti is forced to investigate a case of international drug dealing. He will be thrown headfirst into the underworld he had struggled to escape. Here, new and old criminal organizations collide and innocent bystanders are as hard to find as straight cops. Marco "The Alligator" Buratti is not only one of the most fully realized characters in contemporary crime fiction, but also the ideal vivisector of a world in which criminals hold all the cards.
