The Crying Rose

I did not get a sense that there was an evolution of the characters, rather they merely plodding along on a course. Without giving away the plot of the book, Sami has to overcome her past, but she is not really left a better person. Perhaps this is more of a true to life story as many people are confronted with their past and do not move beyond. It was a good read, but perhaps not my particular brand of romance.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. Dec 16, Cynthia rated it it was amazing Shelves: This was a goodread give away. I was very impressed from the get go. The book came to me fast when opening the book it looks to be a budding rose hand drawn with a note from B A Beers.

This books establishes the relationships that the protagonist, Sami, has with family and friends. It also explains some of the back story for her need for psychological assistance in the follow-on books. Beers develops her characters so that the reader is drawn into the story.

The absence of contractions in the author's writing made it sound like the characters had time-warped from the nineteenth century and struggled with modern language. By far, this was the singular most disappointing aspect of this book. I should point out that this book was written over a decade ago, and I would imagine that the author's writing may well have improved in the ensuing years.
