Head down the path here to encounter more Stone soldiers and if you move closer to the cliff, several Frog Rays will jump on you. After defeating those enemies collect a soul that is on the left side of the cliff. Then go find a large set of stairs near the Stone soldiers. Dash up the stairs and you'll be able to collect the loot, a Wolf Ring , you observed from across the chasm earlier. Once you've done this head back to the main path, and we'll head towards the boss.
From the main path, follow the glowing flowers along the left of the area, being careful to keep your distance from the Giant Stone Knights littering the forest on your right. You should see some crumbling ruins, and a doorway behind one of the soldiers. Dash past the soldiers and head into this tower, climbing the flights of stairs to race the fog gate. If you run, you can reach this gate without fighting any of the soldiers along the way.
Enter to fight the Moonlight Butterfly. After you've finished off the Moonlight Butterfly, head across the top of the wall here and climb the stairs in the tower. There are no enemies to speak of, but at the top you will find Divine Ember along with the Watchtower Basement Key , and a sadly deceased Blacksmith. Once you've collected this, you can proceed to whichever area you like. From the lake go towards the waterfall, which partly obscures a ladder. Climb up the ladder and cross the wooden bridge at the top.
Walk towards the base of a stone bridge, collect some notable loot there and ascend another ladder to enter Darkroot Garden. To your left is a stone bridge, to your right is a small path which your should proceed. At the end of the path there is a number of demonic foliage which can be dispatched with fire.
Continue this path skirting the cliff face to your left you should encounter more demonic foliages. These are somewhat more powerful then ones met earlier on in the Garden. More demonic foliages await. Finally you should come upon the area where the NPCs reside. After dispatching them enter the small building which the Bandit NPC was guarding. In this building there is Alvina the head of the Forest Hunter covenant.
You can join this covenant if you want. If you do join this covenant, Shiva of the East and his guard will appear. He will sell you weapons the next time you meet him as long as you are member of the covenant. Since you are already there you should look for the Stone Set that is behind the ruins past the small stone bridge. If you wander through the forest you should chance upon the Mushroom Children. You can follow them to a small lake containing a chest with the Enchanted Ember , guarded by two large Mushroom Parents. These larger kind have a right hook that will wipe away your stamina and their follow through left jab is no joke either.
However like most things in the Garden they are susceptible to fire.
Darkroot Garden is accessible early in the game, through the room containing the Titanite Demon below Blacksmith Andre. In here you'll find an essential ring for continuing the main quest. Keep in mind that doing events in this order will prevent you from joining the Darkwraith covenant until the next NG cycle. As you go, you'll notice an item on a ledge to the left that you can't reach yet , as well as a Soul of a Nameless Solider that you can reach on a corpse behind a rock ahead.
Continue on until you see some stone walls, a pile of rubble and a stone door with a glowing lock. On the left of the pile of rubble is an illusory wall that will disappear if you attack it, revealing a bonfire. Once you've dealt with your ambushers, and picked the Large Soul of a Nameless Solider , head through the fog gate. Take a right after going though the fog gate and you'll find an Enchanted Tree blocking the way to a small passage - hack away at the tree until it disappears.
These enemies can be bested easily enough if fighting them 1-on A good chunk of their health can be eroded while they are getting up off the ground and careful use of blocking and strafing behind them to attack is the best strategy for fighting them. Return to the bottom of the stairs and into the open area once again. Continue in the same direction you were headed, before you climbed the stairs. Almost There - As stated earlier, this area has many enemies but most can be avoided if you wish. From the fog gate , hug the left wall until you see a small passage to the left.
After dispatching of him, you can then enter the doorway into the tower. If you are in human form, roll through the bushes under the stairs to find a summon sign for Witch Beatrice. Her spells will be a great help during the following boss fight, especially if you are not a casting based class.
Follow the stairs all the way up to the fog gate , and get ready to fight the first of this area's two bosses. Becoming Elite - Go all the way back down to the open area and hug the left wall to get to the treasure we ignored earlier. Once you've collected the treasure here there's nothing left to do but go back to the bonfire.
Entrance To The Forest Hunter's Woods - If you have collected 20, souls on your journey through the garden so far then you can buy the Crest of Artorias from Blacksmith Andre ; killing Andre will also give you the crest , but this is not advised if you want to upgrade your weapons. This item is used to open the glowing lock next to the bonfire. Once open, it will lead to a wooded area that can only otherwise be accessed from Darkroot Basin , thus proving to be a reliable shortcut Note: The door cannot be opened from the inside and thus you'll need to obtain the Crest of Artorias to open the shortcut.
The Merry Men - In the wooded area behind this door there are numerous high level human characters that will attack you on sight until you join the Forest Hunter Covenant. While a straight fight will prove possible through hard work, the same result can be achieved at a lower risk through trickery, even if you are a low level character:. However, there is one that will not follow you - Pharis ; we'll meet him soon. Traverse the area along the left side and you'll reach a structure with a bridge behind it. Very briefly, go across the bridge out the back of the structure and continue down the stairs until you've reached the outside.
From there head left and follow the wall to find with a chest around the back, containing the Stone Knight Set. Good Kitty - There's no need to go into these woods for the moment, so go back across the bridge and inside the structure again where you can talk to the white cat, Alvina , to join the Forest Hunter Covenant. After joining, the human enemies that once attacked you on sight in the woods will now be peaceful unless you choose to attack them - in which case the covenant will be broken.
This way you can benefit from all the souls, and possible item drops, and not have to worry about betrayal. Some things to consider:. Robin Hood - Still out the front of the structure, keep going around the area with the edge on your left side and you'll eventually find Pharis. Keep following the area around and you'll come across a corpse containing the Eastern Set as you travel.
