One Wild Night (Wild Nights Book 1)

Maybe not, says Reiss, as he explores how getting a good night's sleep evolved and why it varies from one culture and era to the next. Undoubtedly, this book is an important contribution for everyone who sleeps, scientists and other citizens alike. A fresh approach to a familiar phenomenon. Why the modern world forgot how to sleep. Why is sleep frustrating for so many people? Why do we spend so much time and money managing and medicating it, and training ourselves and our children to do it correctly? In Wild Nights , Benjamin Reiss finds answers in sleep's hidden history--one that leads to our present, sleep-obsessed society, its tacitly accepted rules, and their troubling consequences.

Today we define a good night's sleep very narrowly: But for most of human history, practically no one slept this way. Tracing sleep's transformation since the dawn of the industrial age, Reiss weaves together insights from literature, social and medical history, and cutting-edge science to show how and why we have tried and failed to tame sleep.

Wild Night

In lyrical prose, he leads readers from bedrooms and laboratories to factories and battlefields to Henry David Thoreau's famous cabin at Walden Pond, telling the stories of troubled sleepers, hibernating peasants, sleepwalking preachers, cave-dwelling sleep researchers, slaves who led nighttime uprisings, rebellious workers, spectacularly frazzled parents, and utopian dreamers. We are hardly the first people, Reiss makes clear, to chafe against our modern rules for sleeping.

A stirring testament to sleep's diversity, Wild Nights offers a profound reminder that in the vulnerability of slumber we can find our shared humanity.

How could I not want to read that? I really enjoyed these books. There is 6 in the series, they are each about 50 pages. I read them all in about 24 hours. I loved how each book picked up where the last book ended.

I also liked that the 3rd and part of the last book were from the guys perspective! It was a fun, mostly light read. I would recommend it to others. I will defini This was such a cute series.

Dec 18, FicCentral rated it liked it Shelves: Impromptu marriage in Vegas with a chiseled male stripper? Valerie Wilder is on a business trip with some colleagues when a night of drinking gets out of hand. One minute she's knocking back shots with her friends and judging a hottest abs contest at a male revue, and the next minute she's waking up with a hangover and a husband. This kind of stuff only happened in stupid movies. Wild Wes is a visual dream with a sexy Southern accent and very healthy Impromptu marriage in Vegas with a chiseled male stripper?

Wild Wes is a visual dream with a sexy Southern accent and very healthy libido. For him, Vegas is just a stopover on his way to L. Unlike Valerie, though, he's not panicked over their hasty marriage, and while he agrees to a divorce, he doesn't seem like he's in any hurry to go through with it. Sure, the whole instantly married in Vegas thing has been done, but that doesn't mean this book is old news. Valerie is refreshingly realistic in her view of relationships, not thinking they're the worst thing in the world, but also not convinced she has to have one right this second.

She knows she's a little overweight, and she hasn't had the best luck with men, but she's not above the occasional sexual distraction. And Wes was a complete surprise! More than just the requisite charmer, he seems to have his own ulterior motive, and he's not really inclined to hide it. He's more than just a little down on his luck, and while he's a nice enough guy, he's no knight in shining armor.

Well, I'm not exactly sure it actually took place. There are two main rules for commas, one of which was mostly ignored throughout the book. I don't expect authors to write perfectly; I expect them to come up with great stories, tell them in a way that reels me in, and leave the grammar and syntax to an editor. Magan Vernon did exactly that, and I certainly enjoyed the story. I'm just kind of pissed off that she got a raw deal on the editing side of things.

Since this is the first part of a serialized novel a bunch of short stories published separately that make up the full tale , it was very short, leaving much more of the story to be told. That's disappointing from the perspective of a reader who wants more now, but I think it's worth waiting for. I'm giving it a tentative 3.

But until then, I'll definitely be watching for the next in the series which should be out in just a few weeks , and I hope to have the chance to keep reviewing as I go. If you're looking for a quick read with lots more to come, you should definitely check it out. When I first heard about this novella series, I was really excited to read it! I love this author's other contemporary books, so I was excited to see what else she had up her sleeve with this series! I loved this novella! It was really short, but quite a lot happened in it! The premise of the plot was actually really funny!

One Wild Night

I found myself laughing under my breath or at times, laughing out loud! I normally don't really laugh at books, so I was quite surprised that I laughed at this one! I also adored the plot because it was something that could happen to anyone, but probably wouldn't! Unless you're Valerie, of course!

The plot also flowed brilliantly and was the perfect length to leave you wanting more after finishing it! I loved everything about it and I haven't really read anything like it before! As I said, it was a really fun plot and it's definitely worth a read! The main character of this novella was Valerie and I completely adored her!

She was funny, and had a bit of a wild streak to her as well lol! I won't explain the wild streak too much as the synopsis basically tells you it, but read this book just to find out what she does and how she handles it! It had me laughing so much!

Valerie was also such a genuine person, so it made it easier for me to connect with her! I just loved her! Her reactions and the way she handled things was exactly the way I would have! I'm really excited to see how she's going to grow in the remaining novellas! Wes was the kind of love interest of Valerie and he was smoking hot! I mean he was a stripper and everything! What more could you want, right? There were several points in this novella though where I saw quite an almost vulnerable side to Wes and I'm hoping that as these novellas continue, that I'll get to learn more about his background and also what made him vulnerable!

Wes added a lot to the humour in this book as well as he was quite witty with Valerie, which was really funny! I cannot wait to read the next novella in this series! I'll actually be on pins and needles to see where Valerie and Wes's relationship is going to head next! I can't wait to read the rest of the novellas as well! The cover for this book suits it amazingly! I love the colouring and, of course, the fact that it has a hot body on the front of it lol! I'm excited to see how the rest of covers are going to compare!
