Fatal Deception (romantic suspense) (Red Stone Security Series Book 3)

Jul 01, Diana Tan rated it it was amazing. Another 5-star rating for Katie Reus' book. Fatal Deception is a great addition to the series. Passion, deception, intrigue, suspense, action, drama. What more can you ask for? Harrison's and Mara's story is one you wouldn't want to put down until the last page. Nov 18, Marcella rated it it was ok Shelves: All in all I'm not impressed by this series and I don't think I'll be reading this author again.

Jan 04, Melanie rated it really liked it Shelves: Mar 25, Barbara rated it it was amazing. Re-read- Still 5 stars! This is still one of my favorite reads in the Red Stone Security series. Feb 06, Iulia rated it liked it. I have one word for this book: Honestly, what was the point of Fatal Deception? The main couple is already married and suddenly, after their wedding, they discover that they have problems because of Mara. I thought it's stupid that Mara didn't want to tell her ex-CIA-agent husband the truth about her past because she wanted to protect him.

I still gave it 3 stars because it was an enjoyable read and I'm looking forward the other books in the series.

Oct 09, Valorie rated it it was amazing. Although, at times I wanted to shake some sense into her. Harrison and his intensity were hot all in itself. I loved the whole dynamics of the story.

  1. Pagtangis ng Lupang Pinangako.
  2. The Legend of the Grail (Arthurian Studies).
  3. Fatal Deception.

I always wanted to know her backstory. Jul 22, Epiphany rated it it was amazing Shelves: Mara and Harrison's story had me sitting on the edge of my seat through the whole book. This book is suspenseful, sexy, nail biting, fun read. I love this book and series. I can't wait to read the next book. Jan 03, Jennifer Muraski rated it really liked it. I can't get enough of this series right now. I was happy this book was about Mara and Harrison. I was curious about their backstory after they appeared in book 1. Feb 08, Linda rated it really liked it Shelves: Fatal Deception by Katie Reus is heart-pounding romantic suspense at its finest!

Add in Heart-pounding romantic suspense! The first two books in this series featured the stories of Caldwell sons, Peter and Grant, both former marines. It picks up right where the former book, Danger Next Door, ended. Since Harrison and Mara are already married, there is no need for relationship development so Katie is able to jump right into their story. Mara has finally found happiness with Harrison. But, she has a past with MI6 that she has kept from Harrison. While at MI6, she helped convict a very bad man. Now that man has escaped from prison and found Mara.

He is determined to make Mara and everyone she loves suffer before he kills her. Mara is one kickass heroine. She is strong and more than capable of defending herself, but has difficulty trusting others. Mara should be smart enough to know that those close to her were in more danger from not knowing what they were facing.

Harrison is a domineering presence who requires submission in the bedroom. Their bedroom scene is hot, hot, hot! He loves Mara and is clueless as to why their marriage is in trouble.

Fatal Deception (Red Stone Security, #3) by Katie Reus

Even though it is the third installment and there are interconnected characters with the previous books, it can easily be read as a standalone if that is your preference. Indeed, I have read the series out-of-order and do not feel that doing so has impacted my enjoyment of the series. Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Fatal Deception: Mara roughed up some guys? Mara would have told him about that. She also took a bunch of pistols. Anger and raw pain surged through Harrison as he wondered if he really had married a stranger.

She has a clear voice that is easy to follow. Her voices — especially her male voices - sound genuine and are consistent throughout. Katie is one of my favorite authors. Fatal Deception is an enjoyable listen from the first through to the last. Please check it out there: Oct 04, Amy R rated it it was amazing Shelves: I am so excited about this book.

The thing that has me most excited about it was that the hero and heroine are already married. In this story Mara has secrets from her past that she has not shared with her husband Harrison. Her past comes back to haunt her and Mara tries to handle things herself, in order to protect Harrison. We watch him struggle to get answers from her while she struggles at how much to tell him. She also deals with trust issues. The story flows very smoothly and quickly. The plot is well done and the characters are well developed even for such a short story. It helped to read the first two books so you got a feel for the relationship between the main and secondary characters.

Katie does a fantastic job with Harrison and Mara. Despite the fact that they are both former spies her with the MI6 and him with the CIA they are a typical married couple. When trust is broken and feelings are hurt, they act like a married couple would in real life which made them easy to relate to. I was a little worried about the warnings Katie mentioned in the summary of the book about the light bondage and hot sex scenes since I do not read erotic romance.

The bondage part was in one scene that I remember and was consensual between a husband and wife and had a great deal of meaning to it at least I thought. The scenes seemed typical to me in a married relationship. They weren't crass or raw, but were done with such feelings between the hero and heroine. You could tell that Mara and Harrison are married because they would talk and laugh with each other while making love.

Overall I found this to be a great romantic suspense book that was well balanced between the suspense and romance. I tend to enjoy stories that have a good plot, a good romance between a hero and heroine and just a couple of specific intimate scenes throughout the whole book.

This book fit all those and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense! Feb 23, Elisa Hordon rated it really liked it.

Deadly intrigue and secrets are never good in a marriage but really who could resist the very sexy Harrison lol I don't blame Mara at all. Oct 06, AnnaBanana rated it it was amazing Shelves: I really love these books! Seriously, I have become addicted to these guys! This book starts not long after the second book and we finally find out what the tension between Harrison and Mara is all about. Finding out sweet Mara had a past was pretty surprising.

I did not see that coming in the previous books but it's a good thing because she's pretty awesome. I can't say more or it will give it away but she's my favorite heroine of the series so far. She's definitely a great match for Harrison! And Harrison, whew, the guy is intense! He's my favorite of the Caldwell brothers. The writing is amazing as usual and the story really grabs you and sucks you into it.

I had every intention of waiting to read this book but I read the first page and that led to the first chapter and then the second and so on until I looked up and it was 3 in the morning and I was done with the book. And I've already said it but I have to say it again, I love these characters!

Not just the brothers and the women but the guys who work for Red Stone Security are pretty nice too. My favorite being Travis, who I know is in the next book I believe, so I can't wait for that. I have a thing for the Mohawk. Overall, this is a really good read! It's packed full of action and suspense and some really sexy love scenes.

See a Problem?

Okay, a lot of them! If you enjoy a good romantic suspense, this book and series is definitely for you!!! Now on to the next book Dec 16, Trish R. Also, Mara d An OK read.. Also, Mara did have a TSTL moment, like soooo many authors give their heroines, when she was going to leave her husband, to protect him, even though he had been in the CIA for years and now ran a security agency. How stupid is that?

Any woman who does stupid crap to protect a man is an idiot, especially when the man is an ex-CIA agent. I was sure impressed when Mara kicked the hell out of those two at the pawn shop, and I liked that she took care of abused women, but that was about all I liked about her. Her husband had hundreds of military men working for him, yet she thought she had to protect him. That was just crazy. Neville was a perfect, evil bad guy. The on-going story was good but Mara ruined the book for me.

A Show of Scrutiny - Critical Role - Campaign 2, Episode 2

Anyway, it was an OK book. Not as good as the first two. Piercings, tats and a Mohawk are just not hero material to me. Dec 25, MsRomanticReads rated it liked it Shelves: While predictable that she was in some sort of trouble, the nature of it was a nice surprise. I really liked Mara for her toughness, self-sufficiency, and her big secret that made her one kick-ass heroine. That struggle was what drew me in to her story. I understood her reasons for her behavior, however, I was disappointed that she was depicted like those heroes who make unilateral decisions without talking to their partners into consideration.

What she thought was a selfless act was something I found utterly selfish. She knew he was a former CIA agent and could take care of himself heck he made a living out of protecting others. The only place that seemed secret and deception free was in the bedroom. The sex was hot the hottest of the three books , and for a woman with her background, the fact she had no problem giving up control to him spoke volumes of her love for him. Again, the suspense was decent but rather rushed. Oct 27, Sarah Weaver rated it it was amazing.

  1. Martian Wars: Prologue.
  2. Master of her Virtue (Mills & Boon Modern).
  3. The Thin Red Line (The World War II Trilogy).

Katie Reus has very quickly become one of my must read authors. I have read several of her stand alone romantic suspense novels and her Red Stone Security Series. The Red Stone Security Series can be read as stand alones but I found the characters in this series addicting so I had to read them all. The series follows a family that provides security detail and systems for the worlds elite.

Of course this is a nice way of saying that it's a group of hot alpha males. Fatal Deception is the third book in the series and follows Harrison and Mara who have been married for two years. I found this to be an interesting change from the first to books in the series that detail relationships starting. The conflict in this book is that Mara has a past that she has kept from her husband; a deadly one. Her trust issues from a troubled childhood have kept her from fully opening herself to her husband and makes her believe that she needs to protect her husband by leaving him instead of letting him risk his life to help her.

I'll just say that things don't exactly go as Mara has planned and it's a roller coaster ride from there. I loved the inner dialogue in this novel and it was nice to get it from both Harrison and Mara. I found it hard to put this book down. This is true of every book that I have read by this author but it's especially true of her Red Stone Security Series. They are a must read! Jul 05, Michelle rated it really liked it. I bought the Red Stone Security series box 1 after I saw such an excellent deal that made it difficult to pass up.

My only real complaint is the length- I wanted the story to be longer. I admit that I'm completely selfish when I like a book and could generally be quite happy for the book to continue for another few chapters. Can you read this as a standalone book? You don't need to k I bought the Red Stone Security series box 1 after I saw such an excellent deal that made it difficult to pass up. You don't need to know about Lizzy and Porter or Belle and Grant to read this story. Yes, both couples make an appearance in this story, but I don't think you would necessarily need to know everything about their stories in order to enjoy this one.

Would you miss out on a decent story if you did? So while I can say that you do not need to have read the first story and second, you should because it was quite enjoyable. If you've never read the author, I definitely say give her a try. I think you would be surprised - even I was surprised that I liked her as much as I do since I tend to stick with paranormal romance and urban fantasy. Protecting His Witness 8. But when her past finally catches up with her she'll have to either run, or come clean about everything if she has any hope at all of keeping her husband and the rest of those she loves safe Harrison is shocked and hurt when he learns of his wife's former life and the fact that she didn't trust him with the truth.

If they have any shot at protecting Mara from a sadistic killer bent on revenge and her ultimate destruction though, they'll have to work as a team Now not only is their marriage on the line, but possibly their very lives. The story was unique in the fact that Mara and Harrison are already married, but seemed to focus more on their relationship woes and sex life rather than the action and suspense aspect. While I really liked Mara who didn't act like the "ice queen" she was reported to be, I didn't care much for Harrison who seemed like the colder one to me.

I also don't think his character was fleshed out enough, and never felt like I got to know him well. Then there was the villain who was a bit of a let-down and got taken out far too easily and efficiently. With that being said, the chemistry and connection between these two seemed to flow from the pages. Their love scenes were sexy and hot, and even included some light bondage. I also enjoyed the cameos by others from the first two books. Overall it was okay, but just not as engaging or suspenseful as I'd hoped for. I really like Ms.

The potential threat for her had knocked her new world off kilter, and Mara Caldwell believed she made a clean break from her old life that she'd created with the only man she ever loved, but when an old nemesis reappears threatening the life she built for herself, Mara is prepared to give everything she possesses including the husband she loves in order to keep him safe.

Harrison Caldwell worked for Red Stone Security that protected high-profile individuals, and he knew with a certainty that his wife kept secrets, and when he discovers the unbelievable truth, he's not only determined to protect her from a evil enemy out for vengeance, but her lack of faith in him not only infuriated him, but breaks his heart to the core. Having no other choice, they must work together to keep her safe, but the man they're up against is plotting a deadly game of cat and mouse by making sure Mara is a helpless pawn in his sadistic plan by destroying everything they've built together including their lives once and for all!

This is the third Caldwell brother who must fight to keep the strong woman he loves safe from her past, lies, and secrets. The language and sexual situations are not appropriate for young teenage readers.
